You don't really need to volunteer, they didn't ask me about any volunteering work. It was more about relationship with friends/family. What you remembered/what was your experience from primary/high school. Conflicts you've had in the past and how you resolved them, hobbies you have, why you...
You've answered the question yourself. At the end of the day, the admission office won't care whether or not you got a HD in MATH1031 or MATH1141 - all they see is HD and tick, good GPA.
Its an easy choice, just switch over.
Just to add to what Trebla said, research is just reading many articles in your very very narrow field (e.g. a specific protein or gene involved in a specific biological pathway involved in a specific disease). Once you've finished researching what is already known out there, you come up with...
1. If you don't go hard during HSC and don't get into Medicine, you'll never know whether or not you were ever capable of it.
2. If you don't get into Medicine, and you don't want to waste your ATAR - then do Law, end up hating it, and transfer to science or engineering. The wasted year will...
I enjoy a good discussion :) Most of the MD programs I've seen just does not compare to an Undergraduate Medical course in terms of full-time research study. Essentially, UG students can dedicate an entire year for research (UNSW is compulsory, Monash/UWS/UNCLE/UNE etc has an optional add-on...
As you have mentioned in the beginning of your post- your patient is your priority, not the population. If you feel strongly about the issues you have raised, you may want to move into politics, admin, or public health roles.
Was in your position at the beginning of UMAT prep - completely unsure how they arrived at a specific answer when everything seemed to be the same. Eventually, I nutted it out - requires a ton of effort. Do 2 hours of prep everyday and read widely (increase your vocab!!).
And analyse all the...
Don't struggle, they're ENTIRELY the same and NO MBBS is not shorter. UNSW's MD is 6 years and UNCLE is implementing a 5 year MD from next year (subject to approval). Both are Undergraduate Universities.
If your worried Medicine isn't for you, then don't do Undergraduate Medicine. Just do a...
Youth Allowance for an independent is around $400 per fortnight, not really enough for renting in Sydney (unless you can find some friends and share a place). So you'll have to work.
Whilst I do agree that you should ignore your parents' wishes, I just don't think its entirely feasible at this...
Re: Do you need to have more than one science other than Chemistry to get into Medici
Chemistry and English are the only compulsory subjects if you wish to apply interstate. Biology isn't a pre-req so only do it if you're good at it and hence bump up your atar.
Hey Safraaz, congratulations on the offer for Law at USYD - an amazing accomplishment but I agree with some of the other posts that your love indeed lies within the Medical Field. I'm assuming this would have been your 2nd time applying for Medicine so not that numerous.
The difficulty with...
Don't think there is any difference between degrees at USYD or UNSW, however, the preferred degree would be one that offers an additional route into medicine such as BMedSci at UNSW or BAdvSci/BMedSci(Adv) at UWS.
UNSW doesn't favour their Medical Science cohort at all when applying through the standard pathway of UMAT + ATAR/WAM + Interview. The MedSci people just have this special entry program when they complete their degree, where only they can apply.
Hey Stan, offers for medicine at UNSW is decided by a ranking system that incorporates UMAT, ATAR, and Interview score equally. To maximises your chances you should probably be aiming for at least 99 ATAR as well as a 90 percentile UMAT. While those scores are preferable you can still gain...
OMG LOOOOL I read that on the train home. Read it like 3 times because I couldn't believe what I was actually reading haha. The person must be a troll!
Since you want to do graduate medicine you should consider majoring in anatomy, especially if you want to become a surgeon or radiologist. The anatomy in medicine is pretty superficial imo, nothing compared to what 3rd year anatomy majors do!
You can apply for Graduate Medicine after finishing BSci or BMedSci or any degree for that matter. They just mention it under the Medical Science category to attract potential medical students.
If you want to become a Radiologist (i.e. a Medical Specialist) you absolutely will have to do a Medical Degree (Radiologist are doctors after all). Not absolutely sure what a Degree in Diagnostic Radiography will lead you to but I'm thinking perhaps assisting in taking images and diagnostics...
