    Question Chain Thread !!!

Biopol is pretty good. I'm doing Cyclodextrin... there has been some really good recent developments with it, and heaps of impacts upon society and environment. It would be wise to look that one up too

    Question Chain Thread !!!

haha lol hey, one thing I recommend is googling some updated info on some of the 'secondary resources' part of the syllabus. I'm currently looking at other monosacchardies that can be dervied from biomass for ethanol production - I'm certain ethanol will be in the exam this year, considering...

    Question Chain Thread !!!

I love Industrial Chem option. It's such an awesome option. We learn about production of NaOH, saponification (lol we actually made a soap and washed our hands with it), production of Na2CO3 (we also made this in our lab from raw materials) and also do a lot of stuff on equilibrium. The joy...

    Question Chain Thread !!!

I'd definitely recommend studying on the mole to ppm conversion crap... my teacher said that it's highly likely they'll have that in this year's exam. I honestly think this year's exam will be hard. :read:

    Question Chain Thread !!!

far out, im soo shittyy i aimed to freaking study M&M as well as Acidic Environment today.. but only ended up studying the entire Acidic module. Lol fat chance in getting M&M done tonight. Means tomorrow I have to read over M&M AND Industrial.....

    Question Chain Thread !!!

Hey, who knows ;) you sure sound as though your capable of a state ranking. :) for part (a), the answer is 0.1ppm because 10µg/100mL goes to 100µg/1000mL , hence 0.1mg/L therefore 0.1ppm part (b) is answered good.. best one to use is KI, since there is a distinguishable bright yellow...

    Question Chain Thread !!!

yehh i did the independent paper too. was a fairly difficult paper, I definitely agree. The airbag question was tricky to comprehend.. but once you wrote down a proper equation, the mole calculations were straightforward. I got 86%.. which wasn't bad.. and hopefully will get at least that kind...

By the way, out of curiosity, who here did the Independent Trial for chem this year? How did u find it, what mark did u get?

    Question Chain Thread !!!

just to elaborate on ur answer. in the exam, i would refer to the catalyst as a finely ground, heterogeneous mixture of Fe3O4 / Fe(s) which provides a very high surface area upon which N2 / H2 collisions can occur. As a result, there is less of a requirement of heat energy to provide the...

Which HSC Chem exam is the hardest?

I have to agree. Since the start of Term 4 last year, we've been doing past HSC papers in our class and our teacher marks them. Basically, our teacher had put questions at the back of each chapter booklet (my teacher makes his own notes) from each exam paper regarding that particular topic...

lol, ok... here goes. a nice and easy one Identify a catalyst for the Haber reaction and explain why and how it lowers the temperature required for the reaction.

lol I agree, but the Leclanche one has just stuck in my head now. It is incredibly long.. but meh after one year of it it just gets stuck in ur head.

    Rounding off in calculations

Spot on ;) Although, my teacher is a HSC Marker , and he said that in a 3-mark titration question, the students could not be awarded full marks if they didn't give their final answer to the correct number of significant figures. In other words, you lose a mark if its not to the correct sig figs.

    Who's effing bored of studying?

It's becoming hard to study.. I'm so physically drained. But I'm just pushing on until thursday for chem. I wanna just give it alll I've got and try and maul the exam For those still going....... just push on!

    Rounding off in calculations

I never round off until right at the end. At the end, I round of to the LOWEST number of significant numbers present in the question. For example, if you have first data that is like: 0.1g 0.2500mol.L-1 etc. You would have to round off to 1 significant figure, because 0.1g has only 1...

    Coordinate Covalent bonds

Coordinate Covalent is when only ONE of the bonded atoms provides BOTH electrons for the covalent bond. For example, in Ozone. The central oxygen provides both electrons for the covalent bond. This results in an unpaired electron in one of the oxygens, thus making Ozone polar (because of the...

    red cabbage indicator experiment

It's pretty easy... just remember that you boil cabbage to remove the organic pigment, which itself is an indicator. In our experiment.. we found green/yellow to indicate alkaline, and bright pink/magenta to indicate acidity.
