    The Abortion Debate (continued)

If they had equal right to life then in theory the injustice would be the same. However in a more practical setting it would probably come down to whether we could accept that being into our society - when slaves for instance were considered other than human, then that society was accepting of...

    The Abortion Debate (continued)

You are willing to endorse termination until it is proven to be murder of a higher being in one case you cannot prove but you oppose termination of another group unless it is proven not to be murder. Yet concede that these cases can not be proven logically using the world around us. Is that...

    The Abortion Debate (continued)

Why give the foetus the benefit of the doubt in this situation then? If we must prove that other living things have the same rights as us before we cease terminating them why is the foetus any different? And an early foetus does not have the potential for life on its own either - it needs the...

    The Abortion Debate (continued)

It isn't established that it is wrong for the foetus to be there, merely unfortunate as opposed to a person trespassing which is. Part of the reason her argument is set up on this point is that another being is committing a wrong against you and that it is not your duty to endure it, even if you...

    The Abortion Debate (continued)

My issue with it, is that I don't think it is an appropriate example when Thompson refers to it multiple times throughout her essay as the basis of logic as why a woman should/should have the right to 'unplug' - points 1,3,4,5,6 and7 out of 8 points are all equated with the violinist example...

    The Abortion Debate (continued)

If you are referring to the violinist, the article states that the patient is kidnapped and forced to sustain a foreign entity - which is a violation and thus equatable to rape. If you are referring to this segment... The article itself dissassociates the violinist example from the case of...

    The Abortion Debate (continued)

If your stance is that our humanity is defined by our DNA and instead of our behaviour, awareness or physical attributes then every shred of tissue derived from a human body has those rights. Also, from a religious standpoint, the core separation from human and animal is our identity(ie our...

    General UTS chit-chat

Re: The UTS 'Secks and wait for Semester 2' Thread Half the classes are communications law people so it'd be a bit much to recount them all, however some of the more notable ones were Josh, Kieran, Fatima and Sylvia. Nice people.:)

    UNSW Source

Ok, so I've recently been sent these e-mails from UNSW Source about activities on during the semester, and I'm not exactly sure why since I go to UTS but anyways - some of the things look interesting on there (like the theatre) and I was wondering if non UNSWers could buy tickets to these sort...

    The Abortion Debate (continued)

A foetus is not demonstratably human in its early stages though - it is little better than a cell growth. So if people believe (independent of religion) that terminating a cluster of cells is immoral/unjust, then it seems more of a line in the sand than a logical conclusion if they support...

    The Abortion Debate (continued)

What I think at 4:30am...(personal opinions galore and not a direct debate against anyone): The most fundamental right is choice, and in the crudest sense a wrong doing is a denial of that choice - which is part of why murder is wrong. If someone is killed, they lose the choice to live and to...

    Abortion debate

Since when did enjoying a sensation or intimacy become reprehensible? It is an instinctive intimacy between two individuals, the only time it would affect anyone else is when someone gets pregnant and if appropriate measures are taken then this should not happen (in theory). I don't understand...

any bi/lesbian girls in the western sydney area???

When/if you decide to go to university you'll find it'll be alot easier to meet bi/gay girls because there are groups, societies, queerspaces etc and the whole environment is more accepting so its easier to meet them in general. There are also youth groups that you can probably find if you...

    Engineering Admins

Ah, you'll find that how you get on with the admin staff does not say much about a degree - quality of teaching, class sizes, subject areas and transport are all far more significant. If you really want to do engineering, compare those aspects across various unis and see which is best for you.
