not all subjects reward memorisation all that well though.. I agree with your second point though, a lot of kids don't really have an outstanding ability in their subjects but are still able to do quite well due to the help of their tutors.

I know a guy who loved doing his phd. Not relevant to the discussion but I thought I might add it. If you look at the list provided by the smh or telegraph, you can see that the top schools consist of selective and private schools. Yes, there are private schools that are pathetic but all up...

I would love to study in canada. But now the focus is on getting into uni. Does anyone know if MQ has any ties with any canadian unis? im planning on doing something economics related if that matters.

because by 'better' perhaps the OP is taking into account more than just UAIs. If you compare schools qualitively you need to take into account factors such as communication and social skills. Of course it depends on the efforts of the individual, but the quality of teaching and the school...
