I agree with most of this. Although Sydney Tech does have a Maths and English exam that they hold for shortlisted applicants.

Send in your application and they will shortlist people. If you get shortlisted you get a letter saying you need to complete a Maths + English test as well as an interview with the Principal/Deputy. My advice is though that you try to get into a school like Sydney Boys/Fort.

I see your point, but I think it is normal that a person would want to look as good as possible, and why not undergo it since it's readily available to anyone in the public. And doing well in the HSC and whatnot may be the only means of getting the approval from their parents.
