I think its within the first four weeks of sem 1 then it comes back some time later on in the year If you drop the course prior to the census date you will avoid paying fees OR it will not be added to your HECS debt

For the science degree you can major in mathematics or statistics - So in a way it's similar to doing advanced maths or actuarial
