Its true my friend. Doing maths/sciences will generally speaking get you VERY far in attaining a high ATAR if you achieve highly in them. Scaling is a real boost there. Whereas for humanities subjects, you have to not only perform highly, but for a 99.95/99.9 - EXCEPTIONALLY. But, FYI, not a...

dayum. That many state ranks and still no 99.95. I guess if you look at this case, you can say that scaling is unfair. (though I suppose we don't know about those other 3 units, but still..)

Not at all. Out of the five, 2 people had one non first state ranking (3rd and 5th respectively), 2 people had no state rankings at all, and one had a few state ranks and a 1st. Put differently, I was the only one out of the 5 state toppers to get 99.95. That said, the others all got 99+ :)

Not true. I was ranked 3rd internally, but got 100 externally. They take the HSC mark, which is an average of the internal+external. FYI, the scaling process (in relation to the ATAR) takes the RAW marks. My HSC mark scaled up to 100 due to my raw.
