    The Woolworths Thread

So I actually get to do a close on Saturday night, which is seriously weird because we're a 24 hour store. My manager will run me through it on Sat, but what do you have to do differently to just a normal night?

    The Woolworths Thread

It was at Safeway Camberwell at around 10:30 ish. Nah he wouldn't care, really, but it was the funniest thing ever! We do it quite a bit because generally it will be customers just wanting to complain and if we called a Manager down everytime there was a complaint, they would get very pissed.

    The Woolworths Thread

Funniest thing of my life today, I had to come and share it. Early this morning, before I started, one of our other Supervisors, Kate, was approached by a guy and asked to see a manager. Kate was like yes, I'm the manager, what can I help you with, thinking he just wanted to complain. He looks...

    The Woolworths Thread

Service Cashier is mainly just being a check-out chick. As you're there longer and make friends with the supervisors, you'll be able to do more fun jobs like Stock and Smokeshop, but you have to 'do your time' on the registers first. It really takes a certain type of person to do it though...

    The Woolworths Thread

How so? I mean like if someone gives $400 cash out, but only has $300 in their draw, for example. Then they might borrow $100 from the person serving next to them's draw, but forget to fix it up later or not leave a note. That is really quite common at our store. Like I'll get a general idea...

    The Woolworths Thread

Well the amounts are culmative throughout the week and are reset Monday morning, so first you have to check with the computer and see what the previous count was. If it's out by more than about $10, the backup supervisor has to count it. If you both get the same count, there are several...

    The Woolworths Thread

Really? They let you supervise at 16? I had to wait until I was 18, but maybe that's because we're such a massive store. I think we're the biggest in Victoria, but I'm not too sure. I'm at Camberwell and we've been pretty relaxed about the green vests until fairly recently when we've got both a...

    The Woolworths Thread

So I saw someone asked a few pages ago, how do we actually order supervisor vests? Are they on the order form? I've been in need of one for ages now.

Do you get any perks or freebies in your job?

Well until yesterday I was a Safeway employee, getting 5% off at all Woolworths limited companies, ie booze at Dan Murphy's, Slavers, Big W etc. I haven't given my discount card back however :P In my current job I get 25% off the wholesale price of really expensive makeup, free makeup...

Casual or Part-time: Which to choose?

It really depends on you as to what works better, particularly for the workplace. Casuals are where you don't have set hours or the number of hours for which you work, and therefore get paid casual loading of an extra 20% of the part time or full time wage. However you don't get paid...

    The Woolworths Thread

You'll start getting paid 21 year old rates once you turn 21 on Saturday, that's how it always works with birthdays. I hope you aren't working on your birthday though!! I'm mainly a service person, but I have done a few shifts in Deli. From what I've seen it's actually a good department...

    First-time Job

Safeway/Woolworths is generally a very easy place to get a job. I hate it now and I'm in the process of quitting, but I got my job towards the end of year 10, in October 2006 and I didn't even have a resume!! My sole experience was a week's work experience in a Law firm. As long as they're...

    Tips for the Cashier

Yeah no that's fine, but when most people try it, the customer is never able to actually grab the coins, and most of the time they end up dropping it. You've got practice, but coins under is usually a better methods for the inexperienced :P

    Tips for the Cashier

I'm also a slaveways (safeway) supervisor, but not for much longer, so a few tips :) Really really important tip: When handing back change, put the coins in the customer's hand first, then the notes on top. If you try it the other way it will not work and it'll make the situation awkward...

    David Jones Christmas Casuals 2008/09

Ok I know very late reply, but woah, hold up there. I'm pretty sure that as a part of your contract you won't be able to work at both Myer and David Jones... that's most DEFINITELY a conflict of interests. No go, try somewhere else. But also yes, after 2 months I would presume that it's a no.

What's your job and how much you earn?

Working with make-up full time for a gap year with an expensive cosmetics company... = 38 hour weeks, $15 an hour to start with and free makeup :D It's soooo much better than slaveways (safeway). Seriously, if you have a checkout chick job, there is so much better out there.
