    Liberal or Labor?

I don't take kindly to being an arsehole. Economic models have things called externalities. I don't have the time, nor the patience, nor the example in front of me to prove it. But some rock star earning 20 million dollars a year, to use an extreme example; their job is less important to an...

    Liberal or Labor?

See, he's implying that rich people are productive for reasons other than income tax. They are, but generally not proportional to their incomes.

    Liberal or Labor?

Rich people might be generally productive. But for example, a teacher contributes more to an economy than a lawyer would, outside of economic models. The point is that economic models fail to account for heaps of externalities. Just cos some rock star earns a shitload doesn't mean they benefit...

    Liberal or Labor?

I'll concede I wasn't thinking clearly at the time and his post was somewhat ambiguous as to exactly who he was referring to by liberals, whether australian liberals or more generally liberals. I understand your views however, and I disagree with them.

Australia: The Queen and the Republic Debate

What about Privy Council decisions? The Terra Nullius doctrine held for so long due to British influences may have been torn down sooner, for example. We might have chosen it, but it doesn't change the fact that it may have slowed down our legal development. Also, the American constitution...

Australia: The Queen and the Republic Debate

Australia: The Queen and the Republic Debate

The Governor General tends to use none of the powers you're talking about being a threat. Suggesting a president would use them where the GG didn't is probably a bit outlandish. Legally our links to Britain have slowed down enormously the development of our legal system. Hardly a good thing...

Australia: The Queen and the Republic Debate

Australia's been legally dependent for almost 25 years, really. We don't need Britain to tell us what to do, and once the Queen dies we'll probably become a republic. Not that it's worth caring about at present. Though, I don't understand what reason one would have to not support a republic.

    Graphics card problem

No, but my understanding is that if I had damaged my computer thru lack of use of a static band, the entire thing wouldn't work. It wouldn't be working intermittently.

Fuck yeah Rudd is *OUTTA HERE*

It won't be so easy for the libs to beat him because of green preferences (And I'm well aware that this must have been said already, but it's the logical criticism of the polling)

    Graphics card problem

Lame if you're right. Any explanation as to how it could be 'on its way out' after so little time, though?
