Yeah...fair enough. But that's just from your perspective. Others feel differently. Some can't be simply satisfied with that way of thinking. Religion can and does have several functions: Sense of purpose. Sense of hope. Provision of order within this chaotic world. Sense of meaning. etc.

Within America, the 'religious right' has much more power, influence and recognition that in Australia. For example, ads on TV funded by Christian groups against gay marriage, the fact that, in some states, they have to teach ID alongside evolution and that someone such as Sarah Palin could gain...

I'd never do it if they were like 'We really want you to break up with...because we don't like them.' But maybe if I was unsure about how a relationship was going and then they gave me some advice about it then I would take that into consideration.

When my friend came out to me, I can't say I wasn't...not shocked but more...hmm...it did change how I saw her...but maybe that was more the fact that I realised she was sleeping with a girl much older. But, in the long run, it didn't make any difference.

Definitely not before same-sex marriages are. If we can overcome 'fundamental Australian values' to recognise the culture/religion of a minority within Australia, we can surely do the same for the legal rights of same sex couples.
