Gay people should not be allowed to access IVF

As for the 'man/woman' thing, I'd like to see *any* family that isn't screwed up in some way...even if you have both genders of parents who are together, there's still going to be issues and things that you feel you've missed out on. It's just the nature of family. I have friends who are in that...

hey. thanks for the rep on my sig. you are like, the first person on bos to get that (or at least the only one who's liked it enough to comment, and therefore, imo, you have a great sense of humour). :D

Should women be allowed to serve in the infantry?

Would you? This argument ignores the whole point of this discussion, the issue is *choice*. Conscription takes away choice, thus rendering that point invalid.

Should women be allowed to serve in the infantry?

Exactly. If they want to give their lives for their countries, who can stop them? We should be grateful and proud that women have got to the point where they feel that being an Australian is worth their lives, and that they feel equal (given oppression in the past) to men in this sense. Society...

Some are born gay, some achieve gayness, and some have gayness thrust upon them

Agreed. In fact, a recent poll showed that 60% of Australians support gay marriage, which was a 3% rise from the last time they did it. So it can only go up from here, especially as young people have a higher rate of tolerance, and they'll be the ones making the policies. The argument the govt...

Should women be allowed to serve in the infantry?

My mum works as a doctor doing medicals for the ADF. The physical requirements are exactly the same. So, when a female is let in, she is up to the same standard as any of the men. The only problems here are the perceptions of the males.

Should women be allowed to serve in the infantry?

And, in the end, it's THEIR life. If they're willing to give away their lives in service, if they have that level of dedication, then they should be able to.

    Prisoners and voting...

This is interesting, as there is also little evidence to support the death penalty as a deterrent. Study: 88% of criminologists do not believe the death penalty is an effective deterrent | Death Penalty Information Center

    Prisoners and voting...

Of course! It's a great idea! Then we can have a People's Army, a One Party system, etc...all those wonderful, wonderful things that China has. ;) But seriously, just 'cause someone has views supporting the death penalty doesn't mean they support those other things. That's a fair leap. Give her...

    Use of the word 'gay'...

I wholeheartedly agree with this statement. There are many, many expressions that everyday conversation could do without.

    Fear or Laziness?

Hmm. Interesting, and very prudent in approaching the HSC! But, basically, imo, 'fear' leads to a sense of being overwhelmed, then a sense of being unable to achieve, then a lack of motivation characterised by this doubt, which can be interpreted as 'laziness'.

Gay people should not be allowed to access IVF

He's talking about sexual urges as 'barbaric' and 'unnatural'.
  14. HumanDichotomy

    Use of the word 'gay'...

It's not a matter of being 'sensitive', it's a simple matter of having the same right to be respected as everyone else. Imagine if, every time something was bad, we said 'That's so Aboriginal'. That'd just be appalling. There are certain elements of basic courtesy within conversation that should...

    Drug Policy Reform

Agreed. In fact, using the logic which outlaws drugs, smoking should definitely be banned.

    Drug Policy Reform

This is an important issue, glad someone brought it up. At first, I thought 'decriminalisation' meant 'legalisation' and 'legitimisation', but now I know better. Much more focus needs to be on seeing drug users as people with problems, and providing adequate rehabilitation rather than pointing...
