    Australian Politics

Politically Rudd is far and away the most popular choice but I can appreciate why they can't stand him. People like Arbib and Shorten are actually humans too, bright, talented individuals who forewent six figure salaries to work in politics presumably in hope of making the world a better place...

    Australian Politics

I gather (as most people have) that Gillard is well and truly headed for the chop now, the question being where do they go from here. Unsurprisingly the factions are still loathed to see Rudd return so they're jostling for the numbers between Crean and Smith almost along identical factional...

    BBC's drastic political correctness move

Wow that is not the correct usage of the word drastic. The use of Common Era and Before Common Era in place of the BC/AD has been around for yonks.

    At Home With Julia

Have just seen the most recent episode, with a bigger array of character quirks to call upon the satirical side of it was a lot sharper and enjoyable, but I don't know how much of that was just Jonathan Biggins and Paul McCarthy's acting as much as anything. Two lines I really enjoyed was when...

    At Home With Julia

Haven't seen this weeks yet so will of course reserve judgement, my observation of the first two episodes was that it was ok comedy but pretty lousy satire. Relied mostly on bogan sort of gags which is legitimate in it's own rights but when you pitch the show at political junkies it's gonna...

    The greatest mistakes in ~history~

Not saying they don't normally win the argument, but the brutal, pack of wolves sort of frenzy that kicks off the minute someone says boo about it is pretty extraordinary.

Extraordinary the way Bos will just beat over the head with a baseball bat anyone who comes out swinging for faith. I'm the only one who posts regularly yeah? Few possible agnostics.

Aussies 'in denial' about being overweight

Abusing them won't do anything though, you catch more flies with sugar, or whatever the expression is.

Aussies 'in denial' about being overweight

Why do you feel the need to be so crass and heavy handed all the time? If you'd just show the manners and good grace that I generally try and maintain you'd find the world is a much brighter place.

Aussies 'in denial' about being overweight

I also think callous boneheads should be called out as dickheads instead of everyone just avoiding eyecontact when they start "calling it as it is".

Aussies 'in denial' about being overweight

Yeah but that it's tied more strongly to Australia than is normal seems just coincidental. I don't think there is anything in the "Australian psyche" if such a stupid concept even exists, that makes us more predisposed to be self conscious about body image etc

    qanda

I was watching Good News World but I was watching Qanda in the breaks and I did see that. Am genuinely interested in watching the episode, two feminists from very different schools of feminist thought could be interesting although from what I know of Tankard-Reist Germaine probably would have...

Aussies 'in denial' about being overweight

Doesn't surprise me, I imagine a lot of people judge weight as a relative societal concept rather than a medical concept. Therefore if the median weight is medically unhealthy, a lot of folk who are medically overweight are going to perceive themselves to be normal and fairly healthy and in no...
