Software is a pretty easy course. History is easier - but only if you know what to do with it. I can't say much for Modern, as I've never done it myself, but I'm assuming the exam is set out similarly to Ancient? In any case - if you think you can do both, go for it. If you want to only do one...

VB is the easiest one to learn/use. I'd suggest using VB - especially since you don't get marked on programming languages, at least not in the sense that, if you don't know how to program 'this to do this', you fail or anything! :D

TIP: If you're notes pass the 100 pages mark, for all of Ancient History - you're trying to memorise WAY too much! :D

If you can achieve a mid to high band 6, it shouldn't be a disadvantage... although it does scale rather poorly. My Philosophy Distinction Course mark of around 90/100 counted to my UAI instead of my 95/100 for Software Design and Development. But still - it won't drag you down, if you can...

BOS does set a word limit, if i recall... but in the end, it's not going to be sent to them. If your teacher is accepting of it, then that's all you need really. :)

Classical music is probably less distracting than normal music because it usually lacks vocals - i.e. you're less likely to sing along with it - and I don't know of many people who can sing along to a song AND memorise HSC syllabus notes all at the same time... It's probably best you listen to...
