Internal student ranks affect your final hsc mark for the subject, which then affects your atar. From what I know: The student who is ranked first internally obtains the highest external HSC mark as their internal mark (all students marks are then determined by deviation of marks yada yada)...

Atm it looks pretty grim due to both the scaling of the subjects and your current marks (esp in a school ranked in to 500s = cohort not particularly strong/consistent) ~67 Though 70+ is achievable if you ace your externals.

Just give your parent's advice a shot, I mean you are doing pretty well with all those units (esp with chem). Try dropping after your first assessment, if you see any decrease in any of your marks caused by the sheer workload.

What are your other subjects? Are you doing well in chemistry? Do you overall enjoy the subject?
