    comp1911 vs comp1917

The real differences: - Comp1917 covers a LOT more content. In fact, comp1911 covers around 65% comp1917. (The following course 1921 does the rest plus a bit more). It is higher computing for a reason. Some people may feel that it is too much. It is by no means an easy course as you will need...

    MATH1231 or MATH1241, difference?

Lol it is possible to get 100 in 1131. They don't really scale you down like that. And yes I have heard from my tutor (one of the lectures) about the same thing (highest 1131 > highest 1141). If you think you can do it then stay. You won't feel that it is much different/harder until the final...

Previous knowledge for a Computer Science degree

No knowledge is required. The lecturers do a fantastic job of catering for new programmers so don't feel as though you will be disadvantaged in any way. That said, any programming experience may be useful for the first week or two and it never hurts to be ahead.

Bach. Science in IT ---> Master of Science in Internetworking

What is it that you want to do? If it is just networking and security then do a basic course and then go to tafe to collect extra certs to widen your skillset. If you want to go to further study, like research and all that then I'd go for somewhere like UNSW which has a really good Comp sci...

    Mathematics in Comp Sci/Software Eng?

UNSW courses for comp sci are quite different to UTS. If UTS is near perfect for you then I highly recommend you go there. It sounds like you want to do a lot hands on stuff, learn programming languages and other IT related things. UNSW teaches a science/engineering approach to computing, as...

    Program transfer First year

You are exempt from doing ged ed courses if you are doing a double degree.

    COMP1917 Openlearning

None at all. You should do them, but it is possible to get 100% without having done anything. The activities are sort of like revision quizzes that you take to make sure you understand the content. There is that CV thing at the end, but time management can be demonstrated in other ways like...

    Program transfer First year

You are somewhat screwed, but all hope is not lost. You cannot transfer until the end of semester two (end of this year). Until then you will have to continue following your program of Comp sci/sci. Whether they let you transfer or not will depend on your marks. If you are finding your...

    Camps

We don't learn much (if any) content in the lectures anyway so you may as well socialise during them.

    Camps

Lol you poor thing. Avoid sitting near the front (despite what Richard said). That's where those people sit. The middle or back are fine and I've met some pretty great people there.

    Camps

I think maths also fits the nerd stereotype as well. From what I've heard, the Bsoc camp was overrated (and overpriced for $260). After all, in the spirit of business it is a good opportunity to make a profit from the high demand. Conversely the CSEsoc camp is underrated. I don't know why...

    MATH1131 textbook, yay or nay?

Or if you want you can just wing 1131 and then transfer to advance stream next semester. You really won't find much difference

Quiet room or area for tutoring at UTS

Just bear in mind that no one but you will be able to use the computers, and therefore don't bother with a computer room.

    Buses first week

I think all of the buses starting with 39 go along anzac pde, and therefore would pass in front of the uni. The benefit of catching 891 is that it's express and will drop you off at the lower, middle or upper campus saving you a lot of time walking.

    O-Week Extreme

If it's any good I'll definitely jump on the site and sign up straight away :) I have engineering stuff in the morning though so I won't be able to attend the welcome bbq

    O-Week Extreme

TBH I don't think it will live up to the hype much. People have all sorts of things on so they'll drop by whenever they happen to be free. Plus you didn't really have to join properly to get the freebies and stuff. Just hope that it is not another horrific humid day like today was in Sydney...

    Mathematics involved in BScIT/BIT

Uts doesn't really have a comp Sci degree. The closest you would have to that is the B mathematics and computing. Maths is one of the core elements of computing but not IT. IT is mainly about using and maintaining computers and computer systems and infrastructures thus requiring very little...

    O Week 2013 - Sydney University

Campus food is OK but there are so many more and better options nearby that are significantly cheaper on days you decide to eat out. Its usually just a 5-10 min walk away. Otherwise just bring food from home - a much cheaper option. So in reality, DON'T GET AN ACCESS CARD ONLY FOR FOOD ON...

    How to accept an offer?

Usyd is one of the few universities that still do it the old fashioned way. Congrats

    Commerce/Arts at USyd or UNSW

UNSW will get a tram which is being built from 2014 but until then expect a 15-20 min extra bus trip from central station. TBH you won't find much of a difference accedemically as both are very good unis. People tend to like UNSW better for their better for the student life but if this isn't...
