Police have arrested an Australian man in the US over the Madeleine Pulver bomb hoax case

The FBI arrested the 52-year-old man in a suburb of Louisville, Kentucky, at 5.45am AEST.

The Nine Network said the Australian man was arrested about 6am in Sydney time on Tuesday, or 4pm Kentucky time on Monday, following an operation involving the FBI and the NSW Strike Force Hadden.

The man was arrested by members of a US SWAT team, Sky News said.

The man had left Australia on August 8, but there is no known connection between the man and the Pulver family.

No motive has yet been established for the hoax.

Extradition proceedings are expected to begin later on Tuesday.

Comment is being sought from the FBI.

He left a gmail account on the note. Police then got hold of the IP addresses where this account had been used. There's video footage of him at all the places the account was used.
