If I was going to use a supplementary text for 1984 it would be Brave New World. Interesting things to note about them are, they both sort of give a commentary of their current social trends and the way of life they predict for the future... HOWEVER 1984 was writen during the war, and you'll notice that in it much more overt forms of control are used over the state, while in Brave New World it is much more covert (much like today with control of media etc).
