re: Preliminary Yearlies Discussion Thread

maybe. but seriously, five pages in an hour and twenty minutes?
:|
wow you get that long to write an essay?

Society & Culture peoplee -
I was just looking at some practice questions,
"Explain the effect gender roles have on communication. In your answer refer to the nature of communication in Australia and one other country" (20 Marks)

Also, "Describe the role of acculturation in changing cultural perceptions and values. In your answer, refer to cultural perceptions and values in Australia and one other country" (20 marks)

For both questions, what type of detail would you suggest to go into? I'm having trouble trying to elaborate to actually deserve 20 marks. My teacher is pretty horrible, and just constantly repeats himself with examples, rather then actual content!
Thankyou.
where abouts are you getting these practice questions? they're hard. D: i barely remember mentioning gender during the intercultural communication topic.

there both quite straight forward, after you get past the rhetoric.
the first one how the characteristics and roles we assign to males and females impact on communication, so talk about the cultural expectations and how when communicating we use these expectations as a prism in which to interact through
eg, women in business, male dancers

the second i would talk about westernization and globalization, perhaps mass medias power in bringing western concepts to the world.

just some suggestions.

My teacher gave it to us - i think it might be last years prelim exam?

Yeah, we didn't really do much on the actual communication part, we more jumped straight into the case study.

Modern kids in my year said that modern sucked. Lots and lots of essays to write and their hands are now broken.
