So what? There's more than one person in the Liberal party and there are just also bigots on the other side of the Parliament. Some people agree with him, because the Libs do have some thought out policies and reasonings for their positions. Don't simply dismiss people who vote for the Liberal party as either being bigots by association or somehow too stupid to understand what's best for them.

Besides, a lot of people see that Labor is worse than this. What does that tell you?

N.B: I am not voting for the Liberals (in the Senate) nor do I have any affiliation to them

Back in the recent months, the Gillard Government made some cuts to the higher education sector - areas such as the student startup scholarship in making it a loan rather than a payment from the government. The initiative starts on 1 January 2014 then onwards. However back in the months, I've heard if the Liberal party wins this election, they are going to cut the scholarship completely. I don't follow political issue too much, can anyone clarify this?

I congratulate Kevin Rudd in leading the Labor party to a smaller defeat than would have been the case if Julia Gillard was Prime Minister of Australia. I think Kevin Rudd's Labor will lose 20 seats. I think this is a great result for the ALP. Labor under Julia Gillard would have lost a minimum of 40 seats. Julia Gillard was toxic for Labor in 2013. Labor's primary vote went down to its lowest vote in 100 years.

Australian Sports Party looking like it'll get a Senator with just 1908 votes.

Reform is needed, especially if a double dissolution on the cards. The quota is half in a DD so you'll see even more of these micro parties elected on very few votes.

Get rid of group tickets and move to above the line OPV similar to the NSW Legislative Council system.

No, I agree more minor parties the better. I wouldn't want a coalition senate majority, but come on how is somebody getting elected with such a small vote a good thing?

The current system does not ensure the will of the people is reflected. Those elected are determined by back room preference deals and minor parties gaming the system.

The only way a voter can control their preferences is to number 110 boxes which is frankly ridiculous. The system does need reforming to make it easier for voters to allocate their own preferences and I think the NSW LC system is a pretty good model to do this.
