^ my class still isn’t finished y11 (actually I think we finished last lesson, anyway). We do only get 3 periods/fortnight though, so it’s a bit tight
my mx1 class only meets once per week (double period, wednesday morning), it's kinda annoying, but means a lot of seniors get Wednesday's off unless they do niche subjects (because we have two lines which solely run on wednesday)

just curious, what topic did you end off with? and what is it like handling (what i think is) 3 different maths classes at the same time?
We finished off on exponential growth and decay! Having 3 maths classes isn’t as bad as you’d think tbh, we have the same teacher for 2 of them and so the only real difference is we do stuff in a different order and the higher extensions are a bit more chill. What’s it like having 1 class for all of your maths? I can’t imagine having the same class and teacher for 4 units!
no way omg... why don't you like them?? they're the reason why my diagrams and graphs look half decent 😭
It drives me crazy trying to stay organised with a grid book (or exercise book in general), whereas binders are so easy and perfectly organised 🤩
perms and combs best topic ever, i agree 😔
Fixed :)

Wait… do they just get to not go to school on Wednesday?? Wow, that would be amazing

Yep! But it basically means in year 11 all their free periods are condensed onto that one day and they don't have any on the other 4 week days. Because I do have Wednesday classes my free periods are very nicely distributed across all the weekdays. My timetable is so sparse now that I'm on 10 units xD

I certainly wouldn’t mind having a day off in the middle of the week, although that said I do kinda like having 2-3 study periods a day because it makes regular days of school a fair bit less intense
Yeah, I love having my free periods during the school day, it gives me something to look forward to xD
I feel like if I had Wednesdays off I would be super unproductive (I'm also unproductive at school, but anyways....)

Same, I think I end up getting more done when I have a full school day; except for when I have a study period with some certain friends, in which case it’s a miracle if I write a single word in the whole period 🤣

Some people in my year have days where they have 2 real periods and then 4 free periods, which sounds soo good like you’d just be able to chill for so much of the day

i <3 rates, and just the one class is actually not that bad, my teacher is great. and (for me) everything seems a lot more organised where i'm just focusing on one topic at school instead of three at once. morning classes are a pain though, i live far from my school so i show up way too early :(

i don't trust myself with loose leaf haha, purple 128 studymate grid book for the win:angel: (i'm gonna pretend you did not just edit my message...)

i don't trust myself to be productive when i'm at home during school hours haha, i always go to the library near the train station to study when i leave school early because i know i'm just going to go on my phone until 4 lmfao

Thoughts on the difference between Ext 1 and Ext 2? Im doing accelerated Ext 1 rn (hsc 2023) so can pick up ext 2 for yr12. Should I be putting more effort into math so I can do really well and get into ext2 or just chill with ext1 and focus more on other subjects?

grind mx1, the other subjects prelim courses are basically just foundation and everything is pretty straightforward and easy with quite minimal effort. MX1 and MX2 can reallly boost your HSC if you do well, if you're good at maths they're very worthwhile. Personally I didn't find prelim mx1 very difficult (can't speak on hsc mx1 as I'm only just starting), and as a whole much more interesting than advanced.
Also, achieving a good mark in accelerated MX1 will take some of the stress off your HSC in 2024, as you've already completed 1 unit (potentially 2 if you end up doing MX2)

So far mx2 has been pretty interesting, obviously I've barely started but I do enjoy it, mx1 and 2 are more enjoyable than advanced imo

I’ve really cruised through prelim course and got decent marks in adv and mx1. I know I could’ve done better but my study pattern has been horrendous and infrequent. Really been trying to motivate myself to do good this year to be invited to mx2, only top 7-8 get invited in out of 90 kids taking the course. Questioning myself whether I’ll be able to commit to it, or I’ll fall short again as I did prelim year of the course.

If you’re interested in/good at maths and enjoy doing harder problems, then I’d say you should try your hardest to get into ext 2. Not only will you boost your ATAR, but if you enjoy maths the course is quite interesting!

That is an awfully strict requirement, seems a bit harsh?

having a goal in mind is probably the first step!!! believe me, my study 'routine' was horrendous throughout prelim as well 😭 it's interesting that people have to get 'invited' to do mx2 at some schools.....my mx1 class has 8 people from 3 different schools in it, and I was the only person even interested in mx2
Anyways, it's always worth a shot (gotta be in it to win it), this is kinda cringey but, you'll reap the benefits of your efforts if you do work harder, significant improvement between prelim and HSC is very much possible.

this is very important!! Having a long term goal and short term goals that will progress you towards your long term goal helps a ton!
speaking of mx2, I finished chapter 1 today!!!!!! We'll be onto proofs next week (kinda scared tbh )
Already?! We finish complex numbers in 2 weeks I think, and then we have an exam and only after that are we moving onto proofs, wow your class must be going fast!

that's literally free tutoring at this point haha (would love that). my class is starting 4u once vectors is done (i think starting next week?), i honestly can't wait
so you started with vectors in mx1? (that makes a lot of sense actually, since they are part of the complex nos topic)
and yeah haha literally tutoring
