For sure, I mean I studied only discursive I only wrote 2 pages (but I do have very small handwriting) but I think I did alright.
Plus I read somewhere HSC markers are looking to give you marks, so that's a plus.

I thought you get a higher ATAR if your whole cohort does well?

No but I'm ranked near the top and all of us high ranks prepared for discursive, the rest of my cohort about 70ppl got cooked

Cohort is about 100 ppl I'm ranked in top 15 so yea about 30 ppl did well the other 70 poop, so based on scaling top 25 pushed up 50 in the middle stay in the average and the bottom 25 get cooked

My teacher literally told us we don't get given persuasive in hsc anymore, and we briefly skimmed over discursive in class last yr. so that helped
