Hey...

For 3(b)(i) is it necessary to simplify the expression to:
650 + 100n

rather than
750 + 100(n-1)

??
not sure, i simplified it but don't know if we needed to.

POAD: we were aloud to take it out of exam room at the end unless you left early...

Hey thanx. Btw i'm not sure that your 9bi is right. isn't it 1/52 x 39/51 and then x 4 because there are 4 suits and they havn't specified a suit?

We got to take the paper home didnt u keep urs, q.1-9 my lowest was 7/12 in q 7 and was going at 87% b4 q.10 screwed me over aswell as time i got 1/12 for q.10 dammnit lol

put it this way: the probability is dependent on the first card you pull out so there fore it doesn't matter what you pull out... you get a club and then u have 39 non clubs to choose from from the 51 cards that are left

does that clear it up??

Maria,

I found that if you multiply it by 4, then the probability is > 1 (which is impossible)

no, it's 1/17. which is less then 1. which is possible. Lol-i'm really clinging onto the marks that will keep me in mid band 6.

If It's 2.88 years plus January 2009, It would be November 2011. I'm pretty sure.

If I remember the question correctly, 2 cards are drawn and not replaced.

If it asks the probability of the 2nd card being of a different suit to the 1st, it means the 1st can be ANY of the 52 cards, therefore 52/52 chance.

Then there are 51 cards left, 13x3 of which are NOT from the same suit as card 1. So your original answer is right matt: 39/51

I'm quite sure.

woot. thats what i had i think. hopefully those countless years of playing big2 finally paid off.

to thread starter: thanks alot. my friend emailed the solutions to me. personally i havent looked at them and im not sure if i wanna. i just have one question? did you actually come home after it and rewrite all of this or what? because redoing this paper wouldve been the last thing on my mind.

Sorry bout that...I misread that u had 1/52 instead of 52/52 :p

If others agree with my answer...I think I'm right...but good question though!!!
