Probably a stupid question but I know that for most subjects your mark is rounded up at the end i.e. a 49.5 rounds up to 50 and you still pass.

Hypothetically though, what if a student gets 99.5? would they be rounded up to 100 (perfect score)?

LOL

I don't see why not. However, if your getting 99.5, the extra .5 really doesn't mean much.

49.5 does NOT get rounded up to 50.

i know one person who got 49.70 and still failed. beg, cry, suck dk all they want, they couldnt get it chaged

50.00 is the cut-off for a pass. not 49.99

actually in most cases i think the lecturers have a look at all the other work of the student and might decide to scale it up.

Its up to the SC in the end. Some may just put it to 50 and some SC's will fail you, depends how good their day has been

Not rounding it up would be quite harsh. If you get a 49.5 and fail, you might have a compelling case with an appeal.

Just to note, perfect scores are possible. I've seen it happen in an IT subject.

Final marks at the end of a semester are always given as a whole number, not halfs, so if the person is getting 49.5 it would be rounded up to 50.

Thats BS. They almost always round up - depending on the students performance overall (they might have gotten good marks in the assignment but stuffed up the exam), attendence/participation and also if there were large numbers of students failing by a small margin. It's basically just scaling of the final marks. Even though a student might have got 49 overall the lecturer in most cases will just award a 50 on the dot.

In first year accounting I failed/barely passed every single assessment. I attended every single class and made sure the lecturer knew my name. My final mark was 50.00 - obviously my raw marks were a fail (probably by a small margin) but I was scaled up to pass.
