Hey guys,
I finished my HSC in 2011 with an ATAR of 99.85, with a state ranking of 6th in History Extension and with all subject marks above 95. I'm currently studying Arts/Law at the University of Sydney, majoring in History and Government. At my top-20 private high school, where I was on a full academic scholarship, I topped two subjects and came in top 10 for all others.
I live in the North Shore area and am willing to travel around that area. Please contact me (details are at the bottom) so we can do some discussing! I do, however, specialise in English and History. You have been warned.
I offer tutoring in all subjects I took in the HSC, with the exception of Mathematics (there are a lot more capable tutors out there). I'm also selling any essays and syllabus notes (of which I have MANY and these are spectacularly organised) as well as providing an online marking service.
My Marks
English (Advanced) - 97
English Extension 1 - 49
Ancient History - 97
Modern History - 95
Economics - 95
History Extension - 49 (State Rank, received full marks in major work)
Mathematics - 95 (Surprisingly, this didn't count in my ATAR?!)
So with the abundance of tutors on the North Shore, why me?
- I have the experience behind me -- I have been tutoring with a college, and privately, and I feel like I have the ability to provide both the support and mentoring necessary for individual improvement. I am extremely good at editing people's work (hello, procrastination central in Year 12) and will intensely focus on general writing ability to bring you up to scratch! I tutored pretty intensely during 2012, and one of my students managed to get a state ranking in English Extension!
- I have an IMMENSE amount of resources. I'm talking comprehensive 20+ pages for each topic of History, all typed out exactly to the syllabus dot points, a large amount of Catholic/Independent trial papers, textbooks, journal articles for English, class notes.
- I have a VERY strong awareness of exam technique -- especially for the Histories -- which will help you immensely. The HSC is not about your intelligence, but your ability to answer the question comprehensively, correctly under time pressure. I can help you with this.
NOTE: I am no longer offering Economics tutoring. Only Modern, Ancient and English up to Extension I
A bit more about my essays and notes (which are for sale!)
Here's what I can offer you:
English (Advanced) - I have also included the marks I received for these essays in my school trials. Note that my old high school was weird and awarded the modules out of 15. No ideas as to why?
- Belonging (The Crucible + The Lives of Others) - 13/15
- Creative Belonging No. 1 - 15/15
- Creative Belonging No. 2 -- used in my HSC exam
- Module A - Letters to Alice/P&P -- 14/15
- Module B - Hamlet -- 15/15
- Module C - Ted Hughes -- 14/15 (included in this will be an extra paragraph on RT2 that wasn't used in exam)
English Extension 1 - ditto to above but not the 15 marks part.
- Romanticism Essay (Coleridge, Shelley, Emerson) - 24/25
- Romanticism Creative No. 1 - 25/25
- Romanticism Creative No. 2
Economics
- 150 pages of comprehensive syllabus notes.
Modern History - all of these topics have 20+ pages and are very very very comprehensive.
- World War I
- Personality: Ho Chi Minh (I'll chuck in my 15/15 assessment essay as well)
- National Study: India
- Conflict in Indochina
Ancient History - all of these topics are also 20+ pages and very very very comprehensive.
- Pompeii and Herculaneum
- Cleopatra (+14/15 assessment essay)
- Augustan Period (+ 15/15 assessment essay)
- Athenian Society in the 5th century BC (+14/15 speech transcript)
History Extension
- 'What is History?' notes. Good stuff on postmodernism and differing forms of historical communications.
You deserve a cookie for reading all of that. Basically, please email me at (pesu8140@uni.sydney.edu.au) for:
a) requests for samples of notes
b) requests for online marking (I can send you a sample annotation)
c) negotiation of price and location for tutoring
Thanks!
