How do I explain my skills in my resume? I can put non technical skills like communication etc etc and technical skills like MS office, Java programming etc but I am at a loss how I explain my accounting skills as I have never worked in accounting before.

Read the job description and rephrase everything into your resume unless in fact you can't do something in which case the job probably isn't suited for you. That's the process!

Failing that you can list certain course outcomes from your accounting courses. They're usually already written in a nice-sounding resume-friendly way.
