When calculating the heat of solution, do we include the solute in the value for m in ΔH=-mCΔT?

Like if I dissolve 5g of NaCl in 100g of water, would m=105g?

The mass is generally just the water, some teachers would tell you it is the combined weight but most of the time you will find it just the water

I do, many people do, some don't, but the teacher doesn't care. It's technically both the same, so you'll have to ask the teacher. Saying that, most textbooks would add the solute.

Yeah at my school we've always been taught to just have the mass of water, and not add the solute. Just ask your teacher.

You do NOT calculate the mass of the solute, the value of C is specific to water only.
