you get marked harder in the adv course, and are expected to know more....

but considering both the std and adv do the same HSC, the adv are in an advantage because they ultimately learn more about deconstructing texts, writing creatives work and essays.

if you are capable, i suggest adv, but ask your teachers about it too.

Stereotype much?
Meh, it's a stereotype that goes around a lot. Personally, I don't think it's true, but heh - what the hell. :p

I don't think anyone who had a choice between Standard and Adv would actually choose standard (unless they are complete morons who do not care about the HSC that just wanna get over it ASAP and their mentality is less work is always better more work).

Just look at Standard scaling in 2007, scaling mean is 17.7, that's the lowest of all subjects (i think), even lower than food technology. Whereas Adv eng scaling is 31.2, that is almost in par with some of the hardest 2U subject like Chemistry, Physics and Economics. This is also why selective schools don't offer stnd, it is a drag for the school.

My answer is, who cares if adv is harder or not (but it is), you wouldn't choose stnd if you had to choose.
