lol... after the tragic day of UMAT yesterday I guess my chance of getting into med is.... smaller than a yocto-unit... oh well... I'll try again next year :) if i don't get in, i'll just put my whole life into science again... something that I'll definitely get into :) sooo... Is anyone doing Advanced Science next year? meee want to do Chem under Advanced Science, many people think it's not "professsional" enough if you know what I mean (for example, these people consider biotech is professional whereas pure Chem isn't...) I just want to know if anyone wants to do Advanced Science and which particular area they want to be involved (ohh... and WHY?) Thaaaaank yooooou!

hey laz can u outline the significant diferences between the two advanced science programs?
The greatly higher UAI cutoff for USYD suggests that the competitionis greater, hence better teachign, and quality of graduates?

mediacl science and advanced science are markedly different...and you should take note of that when putting down ur prefs for the UAC

haha, all that means is that Adv Science is more popular than UNSW's program, hence the greater cutoff, because its in greater demand...but who knows, uni's always tend to set a minimum UAI requirement anyway

You were... and then pri mentioned the USYD cut-off, so I tried to stop the two courses from being confused... :)

The main difference is this: USYD gives you diversity, by allowing you to cover a range of areas at the advanced level (possibly leading to a double major). UNSW gives you focus, by allowing you to specialise in a particular area at an intense level over the entire course of your degree.

The websites for the universities' science faculties should provide degree structures and so on if you want more exact details.

yes it has all the labs just got upgraded this yr and its facilities are above par to that of USyds esp in relation to the life sciences (anatomy, microbiology etc).

btw you can get double majors in B Sc as well you just have less room for electives.

is it true that if u do adv science, u dont need to do an extra yr for honours, but get "awarded" the honours as in engg?

I think all science courses award Honours for the 4th yr study of study and the production of a Thesis. YOu need a credit average to be admitted into Honours. In Com or Law Hons is awarded on the basis of acedemic merit.

I think the reason that the UAI is a bit lower at UNSW is because the course only started in 2001 or something...

oh yeh and to routemarker, I think you do have to do an extra year in commerce to get hons, because my friend is doing his fourth year (this year), to get his honors : )

No...the only reason UNSW adv science has lower cut off is because they will accept anyone who got a UAI of 90 or more.

And plus, Med science and advanced science is almost the same thing. lol
except you major in medical stuff in med science (e.g, genetics, biochemistry, microbiology, pharmacology)while you can choose to major in all other sciences in advanced science (e.g safety science, psychology, physics)
