ALEXANDER: The Movie..... and spoilers...

Can we say, homo-erotic?

This movie was shit.

Not for the homosexuality, cuz that was the best bit. I'm so impressed with mr. rough and man-ly Colin Farrell to step up to that kind of role. And for Hollywood to be more than subtle this time. Not like Troy.

There was a big boobs scene to relieve the guys though...

But shit to the max.

I agree with the critics when they say they crammed Alexander the Great's life into a tiny box....

Your thoughts?

I think the problem lies in the whole "OGM HOMO/BI SEXUAL" In reality he was, as were many of the greeks, it was the social psyche at the time. To call it a crap movie cos of that would be to call movie about nazis crap cos it had themes of rascism. The Christian groups ive read have signalled the homosexual themes as blasphemous etc, it resonates of the group that tried to lobby to have the Two Towers changed since it referred to 9/11, making this worse is the fact that it was probably a historical fact. Still, i dont think many people nowdays would have the balls to call the greatest military conqueror a 'fag' to his face i dont think.

Most people ARE ignorant of the story of Alexander, i for one found it awesome, and was a good movie based upon his life, obviously any movie that tries to fit a person's life into a movie would have trouble, let alone one who had conquered the known world by his 20's.

The battle scenes were absolutely amazing, capturing the reality of his Companion Cavalry and yes it did go for a while, but that was his life in a nutshell. Jolie played the role perfectly, as did most of the characters.

Oh fuck off. It was just dull. No tension at all, bland (and bored) narration, a story that lacked any sort of narrative flow, poor acting and score, and the final battle had zero build-up, which led to the absolutely pathetic ending (OK, Ptolemy's last "the musings of an old man" or whatever he said was a nice wink to the audience, but other than that it just fell flat). There were very few redeeming qualities.

Face it, the script sucked and the film sucked.

Actually, speaking of short attention spans, how's Alias shaping up this season? More hot girls, bright lights and fast music? Really cerebral.

Dull? I think not. The narration was not bland, the acting was powerful, the score was moving and apt, so say that the final battle had no build-up is to ignore the rest of the movie, and the ending was what the ending had to be. I'll let you into a little secret -- Hollywood can't change history. While I'm sure you would have preferred an elaborate car chase sequence before Alexander’s death, as I said, history is what history is.

The film is a wonderful example of a historical epic, and your review of it suggests you where either seeing another movie, or drugged. Or you could just be very stupid, and incapable of looking into things further then what you see on the surface. I would like to remind you of an old saying "you can't judge a book by its cover."

I'm sure one day, if you ask nicely, someone will explain things to you. Using nice small words and if possible some bright colours.

Face it; you are an idiot, as well as being dull and uninteresting.

I had a whole post to go here, but my compuer retarded itself.
So here it is again in a nutshell:
1. The film had no narrative drive, it just jumped from one defining moment in Alexander's life to the next, and the whole Philip flashback was utterly pointless. There was no sense of an actual story.
2. Hopkins was acting bored, Leto was just acting weird, and Jolie was acting incredibly over-the-top. The acting wasn't "powerful".
3. Hollywood has a proud tradition of rewriting tradition, so to say that they "couldn't" do it here (not saying they should've, but then again, I think the story of Alexander's life is unfilmable) is ridiculous. The end of the film was just a complete letdown story-wise - you've got the big final battle, and then it just sort of limps towards "Alexander died"
4. The film never presents any sort of conclusion about Alexander's life. I understand that Stone was being pressured by the studio and by focus/lobby groups, but if you're going to forgo an actual narrative in favour of a character study, you wanna actually study the character.
5. Ultimately, while the film looked good, and should be applauded for taking the subject matter seriously, it's a failure of a movie.
6. Loud, dumb action movies certainly have their place. If you don't enjoy the odd bit of light-hearted, inconsequential spectacle you're gonna have a very dull life.

I know this doesn't really validate my argument, but 14% is pretty damn low

Well if it comes down to that I do too, but that doesn't mean the movie's any good.
