Which do you guys think is better? Ancient or Modern?

I chose my subjects for next year last mondayy,, and i chose modern. But now i'm thinking of changing to ancient since I saw the syllabus and stuff. Only thing i'll need to rearrange my whole timetable >< hopefully it'll fit

my world history teacher (elective) said he never was interested in ancient history but later regretted it coz he came to love ancient..said it was much more interesting..he specialised in world war 1..

i think all the history teachers agree that ancient is more interesting..

that is their opinions..

i prefer modern..

I was going to do both but then decided to do 3U maths so I only do Modern History. I find the mindset that I use in Modern History much more interesting because the historical logic that you apply is very analytical while Ancient History includes more inferences (purely for the fact that there just isn't the same amount of information out there). I love modern because I love being able to relate what happened and/or analyse what happened and then compare it to present day or observe trends etc. The quantity of available information is another great thing about Modern, it's much easier to find information and look at issues from a historiographical point of view. Personally I think you should keep modern but I'm an advocate for history in general so just pick the topics that sound most interesting to you; because believe me when I say that it is much easier to research a topic you are interested in.

Agreed.
Theres no fun in sciences at this level in that everything you research already has a definitive answer, or is purely theoretical.

No delicious middle ground and interpretation. Mmmm. Post modernism <3

I do Modern this year, and I'm lovin it. Never-mind I haven't studied for the Prelim exam next Friday...
Anyway, I reckon there's a lot less speculation in MH, where as AH has got a large speculative component. Plus, it's really hard not judge all the things they did and put yourself into an "ancient perspective".
Either way - do extension History. I'm thinking about Cicero as topic of interest- you know, to mix things up with Modern.

Its the plan eventually, I'd love to teach it at a University level.

For now, however, I plan dor to a ba/b teaching at UNE, and teach history/societyculture/english at a highschool level, and work towards moving up.

My friend continually tells me I should ditch the teaching part and just because a wise old history scholar XD

modern is amazing because a lot of what you learn is still relevant and it's easier to engage with than ancient.

I did both ancient and modern for prelim but ended up dropping ancient for the reason stated above. Although ancient was interesting, Modern is easier to engage with coz we are stil sorta living in the aftermath of it all...

I always thought I liked ancient better. Initially i didn't even choose modern for prelim, however a week of biology fixed that right up lol after i picked up modern, i realised that i liked it a lot more than ancient.

In the end it comes down to your own personal interests. Just know from now that modern is heaps of work, however I think it does develop your analytical skills more so than ancient does.
