Just a small question: are halons the same as halogens?

coz i looked up some sources, and some say that they're "special" halogens and some say that they are just another name for halogens in general...

soo..... if i had a sentence with 'halogen' in it, and i replaced it with 'halon', then would that be correct? Or are halons 'specific/special' halogens...

hmmm.... my question doesn't really make sense...

NO!!!

LoL. Halogens are elements in group 7, like fluorine, chlorine and bromine. They're usually pretty nasty reactive things.

On the other hand, halons are kinda like a brand name for specific types of CFCs.

So they're not interchangeable. Have a look at wikipedia.
