Are personality tests graded? (1 Viewer)

I know many personality tests that when you take, will just give you a descriptive result (the description of your personality). But are there personality tests with a pass/fail result? I'm asking because my brother is going to apply for this job but he's been told that he'll be required to take some personality tests.

There is no point in a test that can't be used for differentiation between candidates or as some kind of minimum result for further progression, so yes.

Recruitment is all about discriminating against applicants.

That's the only way you can find the best candidate.

'Grading' is not the right word. Your personality is judged from these tests and they assess whether the personality is suitable for the role

e.g. if the role is client facing then they see if you're a people person or if the role uses a lot of numbers they see if you're an analytical person etc

The tests are usually designed to figure out when people do that AFAIK. Bad idea to intentionally try this.

It isnt pass/fail per se. The computer spits out a psychological profile and those who most closely match the profile desired by an organisation will progress. Keep in mind, that different organisations look for different things. So potentially, the same result on the same test might get you selected for one job and not another.

They are designed to detect this and they are highly successful at it. Just be honest - that might not get you an interview or a job, but that's all you can do. Besides, an organisation who selects people solely off the basis of a test is a little misguided (and maybe not the best to work for).

In an interview back a year ago, I told the interviewers the truth straight out in that there was a 50/50 chance I was not going to do the program that had the scholarship offer for that interview. I ended up acing that interview though because they quickly found out I had kept my word with answering all their other questions and they were able to guage my personality better than other applicants.

If you have to lie in an interview quite a lot then you have to ask yourself whether you think you are appropriate yourself for the position. Lying quite a lot in an interview is basically your way of telling yourself that you aren't ready for the position.
