Well, I want to hear what people have to say. I myself like to play video games like every other teen I know and believe Yes they do make people dumber in some way but is it really making people lose their dreams and making people really stupid?

Title says it.... Have your say.

Well for me no... playing games can in way improve your sense of relation to certain events and story telling...
Well really it depends what type of game you playing.... there's a huge difference between Sonic and BF3

Depends entirely on what game specifically, there are many that can have a profound positive effect on cognitive ability, critiquing and self analysing in order to improve, fostering creative and imaginative thinking and so on.

No, the act of gaming itself doesn't make anyone stupid.

Failing to do things other than gaming to extend yourself is what breeds stupidity. Moderation is key.

Let's say something like Bf3, COD those kinda games.
Strategy and tactics, memory as well (that one's true for probably every game ever) but I guess it would be limited a lot in comparison to other games.
I disagree even these are making people "dumber" though, at least in any sort of direct sense. Plus there are plenty of other past times that yield minor or no intellectual development.

Yeh what okzokzokz said

I don't know if 'smart' is the right word but it definitely develops different skills and brings out different traits.

just because dumb people play video games doesn't mean video games make you dumb.

correlation is not causation

Depends on the game, and how long you play.

if you play a first person shooter 20 hours a day, then you're not going to learn very much.
If you play alot of strategy games, then you could benefit from that, particularly in regards to the idea of 'opportunity cost', and logical reasoning.

For instance, if it were starcraft, should I build more SUVS/Drones/Probes, or should I build less and start on a spawning colony/barracks/etc

I tend to really enjoy strategy games, and think that they can be of good benefit. (particularly games like Civilization V)

I was driving home the other day and the light was about to turn red. I sped up, knowing that there was a 90 degree turn, and after i ran the lights i hit the handbrake to slide around the corner, but i forgot i had no nitrous, so i hit the barrier. I thought it would be okay since i do this all the time in need for speed, but i ended up totalling my car and breaking my shoulder (doing rehab for it atm).

So yes, games make people dumber.

notsureifsrs, doubt it.

Games just basically consume a person's time if they have no self-control or are ~addicted~ to the game itself, where they don't really complete what needs to be done and are just making games their top priority rather than other "essentials in life" such as studying for upcoming exams and doing a proper job of assessment tasks. As OzKo said, this breeds stupidity or rather a lack of knowledge.
