90+ School rank has nothing to do with it. People seem to forget that there is good competition at lower ranked schools as well.

Improve your SOR by 15-20 places, and you should be set.

this.
even though my school is ranked like around 400, there's still pretty tough competition for the top spots. people just discredit talent at lower ranked schools and its annoying.

No offense, but you have no idea what you're talking about.
In a school ranked 600 or so, if you look at the ranks which are done by percentage of DAs (exams where the scores are over 90), the percentage is less than 1%.
This doesn't automatically translate to 1% getting an atar over 90, but it is saying that the standard is obviously a lot lower, and most people would not be getting anywhere over 90.

And SOR would assumedly even count for him, its only his best 10 units...

That works ONLY if the person is in the top ranks in their subjects, which this person is not. Frankly, you're clueless about ATAR estimation so please go and learn the art or stop estimating because you're confusing people...

OP is looking at 75-80.

There is competiton at low ranked schools, but usually its only between a few people. For the OP to get 90, he would have to be ranked in at least the top 3 for all his subjects. Usually in schools ranked in the 600's, only a couple of kids get 90+

I thought it was like 600. In that case, i'll reestimate and say 80-85. SOR and ext history probably wont count for you

SOR i only do because it's compulsory, i dont put any effort in because i see it as surplus, so SOR definitely won't. i'll do well in ext history if i put in the effort and improve my rank. 80-85 im happy with though

Woah. All the "Experts" getting cut.

@OP - Tbh, try atar calculators with your marks. I would only take people's estimations (including myself) lightly. Obviously, we don't know what marks your currently getting, and the quality of your cohort, so therefore we all could be misleading slightly.

True, as I've said on other threads, all ATAR estimates, whether issued on this website or by your school, can be very inaccurate, but they can give you some insight into what you might get . ATAR calculator's wouldnt be of much use at this point as they cannot convert ranks to an estimate, it can only convert marks. Since its difficult to guess what you are going to get, the calculators are mostly useless (the only time when they are really useful, is when your marks come out and your waiting to get your ATAR).
