But if you look at it from a different perspective which I look at these ranks with, OP and his/her friend have gone to school for 12 years (possibly more if one of them repeated) and for them to get an ATAR of around 60-75 or whatever it's kind of a disappointment, it really is. If OP and friend didn't enjoy school and slacked off and didn't put in their best effort... well that's a different story. You are also right, if that was their 100% then let it be it.
I see what you're saying but then again it is their HSC/life. They can do whatever they want. You just have to be the better man/woman and ignore it

OP even if you get band 5 externally, your atar will not be significantly improved because of your ranks.

NOT EVERYONE WANTS TO BE A DOCTOR!!!!!!
Anyway someone is gonna get those ATAR results and and 70% of people will get below that, you can't honestly say that it's disappointing, someone's best is their best, regardless of their result.

Also how do you even know how to estimate their ATAR, you're in year10, are you:
option a) really good at guessing
option b) using magic
obtion c) actually know what you're doing
