can someone please explain in really dumb terms as to how your last years' cohort or any other previous cohort may influence ur ability to get a b6. i'm seeing these atar prediction threads and they've been listing how many b6s the 2022 or 2023 cohort got. i'm severely confused

The amount of b6's in previous years is important as it gives a good idea of what ranks in your school would give you a band 6, so if your ranked 5/30 and there were 6 b6's in that subject last year then you are likely to get a b6 in that subject.

Wait i also dont get it tho too bc my current skl has zero b6 for all (except math adv 3 b6) my subjects how would that affect me if i work rlly hard? Why would previous cohorts… actually a cohort at all affect me if I work rlly hard? Like dont i deserve my mark n shouldnt be affected by them? Idk i hate the whole thing it should just be everyone for themselves

The amount of b6's in the previous years of your school don't have a direct affect on your marks, it just provides a good indication of what you should be aiming for to get a b6, if there is no b6 for a subject in the previous years you can still get a band 6 in that subject you just have to get rank 1 in the subject to have a good chance, unless if your cohort is an outlier and out performs past years.
