I don't think this was part of the Basic Skills test although I thought it would be relevant anyway.

The Writing Assessment has a possible total of 47 marks.

In the Writing Assessment, Simon's responses show that he did well in some areas but needs further skills development in other areas.

He attempted both writing tasks and scored 37 out of a possible 47 marks.

In the Writing Assessment, he:

- showed greater skill in instructing (a set of instructions on Sun Safety) than in describing (a description of a monster).

- showed greater skill at sentence and word level features than at text level features (well-structured description or set of instructions).

I was never really that good at writing, but that gave me a high band 5 anyway, which is actually pretty good.

Now onto actual basic skills.

This year there were 83 questions in the Aspects of Literacy test. There were 47 questions that tested skills in Reading and 36 questions that tested skills in Language.

In this test, Simon showed great competence in all skills tested in both Reading (understanding factual, narrative and literary texts) and Language (spelling, punctuation and grammar).

In Reading, he attempted 47 of the 47 questions and correctly answered 42.
In Language, he attempted 35 of the 36 questions and correctly answered 33.

Well what happened to me?? lol. This got me into band 6 with all aspects with raw mark of 90%. To put it simply: I got crapper at english as the years went by (I got 82 in the SC, and 79% in the trial).

This year there were 48 questions in the Aspects of Numeracy test. There were 16 questions mainly concerned with skills in Number, 16 questions mainly concerned with skills in Measurement, and 16 questions mainly concerned with skills in Space.

In this test, Simon showed great competence in all skills tested in Numeracy (Number, Measurement and Space).

He attempted:
- 16 of the 16 Number questions and correctly answered 16.
- 16 of the 16 Measurement questions and correctly answered 15.
- 16 of the 16 Space questions and correctly answered 16.

Argh! One question! So this is raw mark of 98%, I got 98 in the SC and for my trials I got 99% for ext1 and 78% for ext2, so I'd say it has stayed around the same.

in year 10, i got "randomly selected" to do some ACER test. just a basic skills test. it was for 15 year olds, but i was 16 at the time. lol i didnt tell anyone. but yeah its an international test. against the whole world. and i got in teh top 10% in the world for maths!! science was just below that, and english was just above average. but they ring me once a year and i do a survey on the phone and they ask me what ive done in the past year etc.

anyone else do this??

Doesn't mean anything, if you don't study then down you go, and vice versa. You couldn't study for basic skills lol

Every single one of my junior school reports had something along the lines of 'Has excellent performance. However, Robert would benefit greatly from being more social and actually participating in class sports'.

Hahhaha.

hahahhaa, a nice and sophisticated way of saying 'you talk too much, look at the board."
