seriously go to a dermotologist and go on roaccutane.
Isn't Roaccutane generally the last resort? My dad refused to refer one of my brothers to a dermatologist for it until he'd tried absolutely everything else, ie natural stuff, face wash, variants on antibiotics such as Doxycycline, Erythromycin etc etc. And the side effects seem kind of scary... the dosage is also really high. My brother's been toxic from it for the last week and a half. :|

I use some Biore face wash and Clearasil cream stuff. Works for me. Although tea tree oil is pretty good too, if your acne's bad it's better to use stuff with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide in it.

I took roaccutane!
It works if your willing to put up with the side effects/pay the costs, but it has to be bad i think, i didnt think mine was that bad, but yeah its gone now.
I had to get blood tests every month just to make sure i wasnt getting damaged on the inside, and it was recommended that i get a psych evaluation because apparently it makes you depressed, but i didnt, it makes your skin dry out to the shithouse! It actually hurt me to put spray deodorant on, so you have to pretty much use moisturiser every day, and while i was on it i had an elevated rheumetoid count which causes arthritis or something, but i dont know if it caused it? But yeah some mornings due to the elevated thing it hurt to get out of bed. Oh yeah and chicks have to take the pill while they're on it cause if u get preggers while ur on it the baby will be deformed.
Hope this helps :)

if your acne isn't horrible enough to warrant taking roaccutane, ask your doctor to prescribe you a cream called Duac. i'm using it, and after about a week and a bit, the pimples visibly subside.

What the fuck?

Roaccutane is for extremely bad cases of acne, and as such, may only be prescribed by dermo's.

All of a sudden, your mouth is sore and your face is just peeling away, and you become photosensitive.

Just wash your face, keep it clean (use non-medicated, non-perfumed soap), (if you need to) use topical cream and antiobiotics, don't pick at your face unless you want nasty scarring or secondary infection, etc.

(Oh, and why the hell not take tetracyclines?)

Tetracyclines are probably worse.

Discoloration of teeth, weakening of enamel, etc. It's freaking tetarogenic!

i thought your doctor could prescribe different doses according to how bad your acne is (obviously it has to be bad enough to start taking roaccutane)? or i'm probably just clueless about this shit

If the doctor's good, then yes.
If not or not as good as you'd really want, then ohohoho no - as long as it works, I guess.

Perhaps not.

I don't really trust GP's.

ETA: The poison's in the dosage, but dude, Roaccutane has side effects, and it's not rare that you'll suffer from them.

Proactiv does work, just don't use too much! Use only the amount necessary to reach all areas of your face. If u use more ur skin just dries up insanely and ur pimples end up getting worse. Oh and try not to touch your face too much
Agreed. Proactiv worked wonders for me. I've rarely had a break out since!

Also, if you have a fringe, keep it pinned back in the night, if your just hanging out at home or on mega warm days. Hair is one of the most polluted parts of our bodies, so it agitates the skin.
I agree with the touching of the face one as well, as we have a lot of bacteria on our hands. Or buy a waterless hand wash so you don't have to worry too much.

Dry skin, Sudocreme it. That stuff, although thick and feral, is good for if you want an over-night solution. Proactiv is a longer term thing, and you have to make sure you moisturise with it.

EDIT: And although certain foods are proven not to cause acne, eating oily foods and the like can leave a residue around your mouth (if you get pimples here, then this is a likely cause), so make sure you wipe your mouth properly after eating.
ALSO: Sweat can be a huge issue, particularly for guys and also for those who play sport. Wearing a head band, and making sure you wash your face after playing sport is crucial.

I use to have BAAAAAAAAAAD acne, my doctor prescribed my this treatment:

Minomycin tablets
Differen cream to use on my face
plus face wash called Cetaphil (not prescribtion)

Totally worked, my face is 100000% clear now.
Last I checked Minomycin is a tetracycline; so... how was the nausea, vertigo, vomiting, diarrhea, yeast infections ('thrush'), rashes, itch, photosensitivity, liver infection, etc.?

I swear, those drugs will take their toll in time - but you did say bad acne.
 Don't scare me like that.
Unless I trust a GP personally, I don't trust him/her. Same applies for surgeons and specialists, etc.

Doctor yourself (when get the MD, MBBS BCh, MBBS, or BMed), and others, because that's what you do, and should do.

To be fair, you're quite right; what I'm saying is obviously exaggerated.

Oh, what causes acne?

You know, typical stuff; blockage of sebacious oil glands in the skin, preventing the outflow of sebum (oil). Usually blocked by something like dirt or dead skin, or by a thickening and/or excess production of the sebacious oil.

The sebacious duct becomes blocked, the gland becomes dilated and inflamed, and hurray, you get an infection!

It's normal, just like your hormones; incidentally, they're an aggravating factor, as are stress (resulting from your psyche or disease) and numerous other normal things.

bigpole, i don't know if i'm thinking of the same tablets as you, but there are tablets that my cousin takes to rid his face of pimples and they've had really bad side effects. they've dried his eyes and lips to the point where he had a visible layer of shit in front of his eyeballs which blocked his vision completely.

Actually I didn't get any of those symptoms, the tablets are totally harmless, Im still taking them now even tho Im clear. Maybe u have the wrong tablets.
Maybe I don't take these drugs, or any others?
Sorry, just a little defensive.

Yeah... so, I don't take isotretinoin (Roaccutane) or minocycline hydrochloride (Minomycin) at all; I know because I know.

Thaaat's right.
Not to be cynical, but that's what supposed to happen.

Now that's just not taking care of oneself.

I trust my doctor, I've known him as long as I can remember.

and no, his desk drawer isn't filled with syringes carrying lethal doses of morphine either.

Green peas aren't scientifically shown to have any effect whatsoever, consequently or indirectly.

Same said for water.

Lol I tried minomycin for two months! It was great except I think I was at that stage where my pimply phase was waning anyway. Best thing about oral cures is that they clear up acne on other areas of your body like on your back and chest (which I actually didn't have, but I know many people who do) because they work from the inside-out and in the case of antibiotics, they kill the bacteria that causes the infection leading to the formation of a pimple/cyst.

Tetracyclines only cause tooth discolouration when they're taking at a young age (when teeth develop)...turns them like grey or some shit. I'd say it's not too much of a problem as the amount prescribed for acne cases is quite small, and the patients aren't really developing teeth so the discolouration would not happen.

Don't take them for longer than prescribed and I'd recommend using a topical treatment before anything oral. Oh also, the pill can have some NASTY side effects that might be worse than being pimply!

In terms of topical treatments, I find salicylic acid in small concentrations is good for facewash and then some low-concentration (<5%, but 2.5% is better) benzoyl peroxide cream and tonnes of oil-free moisturiser (since the combo of salicylic acid + BP can really dry out your skin)!

PS. Proactive's main ingredient IS actually Benzoyl Peroxide but they overcharge like crap! Get some generic brands at your local pharmacy and you should be good to go.

DON'T use more than 5% BP on your face (you can use it on your back prolly). If you see 10% BP creams they WILL fuck your face up.

LOL
if the creams were working but only for a while its coz ur body gets immunity... any product that u use on ur skin shouldnt be used for a long time coz ur body will allways try to prevent changes happening from the outside to keep the balance within so i suggest that u take two of the creams that work "temporarily" (they gotta have different ingredients tho) and use one for a week then the other for the next week or something like that to trick ur body into letting the creams get rid of the pimples.
another option is mineral make up... its got alot of zinc in it n thats meant to help n its also a sunscreen and a moisturiser. its selling at parra westfields for 70$ in a little carty thing infront of lowes lol
