Depends on what you're looking for.

Brisbane is fantastic as a city, I'm moving there next year for uni. I don't, however, see it as much of a tourist destination.

You could stay there and then day trip it to the Gold & Sunshine Coasts. But once again, depends on what you want to see there.

im from brisbane. Most people use here as a base for either coasts. Not much really to see....

Southbank Parklands, got the giant ferris wheel, which apparently you can see out to moreton bay on a clear day, but i doubt that,

DFO airport and jindalee,

Mt Coot-tha Lookout, a must do! Spectacular views of the city and beyond out to Moreton Bay, if you are driving, be carefful coz its a very windy road, go up at sunset, even better views, if not there is a bus up there,

Get the Citycat from Southbank and go down to Uni of QLD, and then go back up to Bretts Warf, good trip.

If you are coming up on the weekend, Southbank have quite good markets Fri-Sunday, same with Eagle Street/Riverside, and Fortitude Valley.

Hm Storey Bridge climb..if u like heights, and the fact that you have to climb 2 lots of stairs...

Go out to Tangalooma Resort on Moreton ISland, you can get there early and use the resort facilities, and diving etc, and they got plenty of tours like sand tabogonning, etc. If you stay till late, you can feed the dolphins.....
My friend and i went in April last year and it was windy as and then from noon it pissed down heaps and we werent prepared so we said fuck it, and just got back on the earlier boat and missed out on seeing the dolphins. And thank god we got the earlier boat back coz it was as rough as hell going back across the bay...so close to throwing up!

obviously this time of the year is good for Whale Watching. Try and get over to Stradbroke Island and try and get up to Point lookout..i say try coz there will be MILLIONS of people trying to see them...

Hm ok sunshine coast: Australia Zoo, Sunshine Plaza (massive shopping centre), Mooloolaba (hehe they got a famous loo with a view), but be careful of the notorious dumpers if swimming and rips. Noosa National Park has some great views and you can have a look at how snobby they are. At the moment the beaches up here dont have much sand thanks to repeated severe storms etc so yeah..
Underwater world, big pineapple, Aussie World (small amusement park), go and explore the hinterlands, lovely areas!

Gold Coast, obviously surfers, Q1 observation deck, the theme parks, um definately go to Springbrook national park, beautiful, oreillys in lamington national park, you get flocks of parakeets feeding of you hehe, Natural bridge....um yeh

hope that helps!

Whatever you do, don't go to the casino if you're travelling with a minor-aged friend and/or want cheap food. Had that exact same problem just last week. They are really shit over there, unlike its sister casino Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast. They basically bully the minor and don't allow them to even step into the lobby outside the gambling premises. They only have 2 restaurants (or maybe there's more, but I only heard of 2?), and the only one that is unlicensed, they will make the minor go outside and walk round the block in the cold because the entire casino premises is licensed, except for that restaurant.

Basically, they treat the minor like a criminal. As for food, I don't know about the licensed restaurant (we had to eat at the unlicensed restaurant because of the minor), but the unlicensed restaurant is so expensive, it isn't worth it. Pasta for $22?! Continental breakfast for $15?!

If you want to go to a casino, go to Jupiters on the Gold Coast instead, it's excellent. Free membership snags you 2 free coffees a day, there's free parking (regardless of if you're a member or not, unlike Brisbane which is $15 and to offset this you need to spend a min of $40 at a casino restaurant and be a member), the casino doesn't treat minors like criminals, and the buffet is excellent. If you get in at the right time (about 11am), you basically pay the one price ($25) for breakfast, brunch and lunch buffet. Not to mention they have a $6 deal for lunch in the licensed restaurant during the month of July. Gosh, I sound like an ad for Jupiters don't I? But it's really that awesome!

Brisbane there isn't really anything much. I couldn't even find a directory of attractions for Brisbane itself and we visited about 10 motels. Best bet is Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast.

Also recommend the shooting academy in Surfers Paradise shops--tip is to share the rounds, cos it's cheaper. Movieworld, Dreamworld are also good, but if you've been to a theme park before, it's nothing new. Also, I wouldn't get too excited about Surfers Paradise beach itself. The surf is great, I admit, but the beach itself is crap compared to Sydney beaches.

Also if you're up for a drive, would recommend going down to the Lismore area--Murwillumbah, Tweed Heads, Byron, Lennox Heads, Ballina, Lismore, Casino, Kyogle, Nimbin, Alstonville. Or even down to the New England area--Glen Innes is the nicest (drive out to Ipswich, then turn for the New England highway). But these are all at least 3-4 hours drive away, so it's not something you can do in a day without rushing.
