has anyone else read the book? its by annie proux who also wrote the shipping news and is only about 60 pages.

seems like it is adapted well and accurately to the movie.

I had no idea it was a book. I might get it before I watch the movie then.

brokeback mountain is a short story, takes about an hour or so to read. its in a collection of short stories which has been released in time for the film titled 'Close range, brokeback mountain and other stories' by annie proulx. you'll find it on the promo table at borders.

its a brilliant piece of literature but at the same time painfully graphic, its one of the alluring things about the way proulx writes. part of you is so intrigued and involved in the characters that you cant put it down and the other part of you is so repulsed that you want to vomit. enjoy

I've read The Shipping News. It was very good and, interestingly, the film adaptation was so painfully faithful to the original text that I almost couldn't watch it.

I hope Brokeback Mountain's success gains Proulx further exposure.
