Dell Inspiron 6400 comes with Core Duo and ATi X1400...anything but shabby, and all at a nice price.

Personally I'd be very happy with a Core Duo 1.83GHz and X1400 256MB. 2.0GHz and X1600 would be icing on the cake, but for its price it's a great little machine.

I got my computer from MSY for $605, excluding freight and monitor - they did a great job, and I haven't had any problems with it. I'd recommend MSY Technologies. Dell is crap.

I built my parents pc for about $500 (although we already had the monitor and keyboard and case etc)

heres what it is:

Gigabyte GA-K8VT mobo
AMD Athlon64 3000
512MB kingmax DDR400
winfast px6600le
standard PSU

I guess the other stuff ccould be had for less than $500

I built a decent budget gaming system for about 700-800, monitor excluded. After overclocking it runs very well - gives about 10950 on 3dmark03.

Asus K8N4-E (skt 754)
Sempron 2800
7600GS
512Mb Corsair RAM
80Gb SATA
plus case and psu, and windows.

Which one? I'm assuming 3DMark03. Big big difference to 06, since you'd need a top-end Core 2 Duo and an 8800GTX to get 10k in that.

im reviving the thread..

im looking at a comp around the 1500 mark

asus p5b deluxe wifi $260
intel conroe e6400 $310
2gb ddr2 corsair ram $180
500gb seagate sataII $75 (thanks to a hookup from a mate of a mate)
asus 7900gs 256mb $210
antec sonata II w/psu $170
acer 22" 5ms wide screen dvi lcd $400

this system is for producing and multimedia purposes and probably spend a bit on sound card. thinking of either the creative x-fi elite pro ($530) or the creative x-fi platinum ($270) and for headphones looking at the sennheiser hd280 which are currently been discounted from $350 to $184 at umart which is quite handy since i only live down the road from there.. these 2 purchases probably wnt be made for a while though

Will you be working with music input?

If so, I'm not a fan of Creative cards, probably better off getting an Audiophile 24/96. If not, then those seem awfully expensive for what you need.
