We all say that many lebanese youths these days constitute a large problem. However, I beg you to ask yourselves whether this 'problem' is a temporary or long term social issue. For instance, during the 1980's, most of Australia was in an uproar over 'Vietnamese youths'. The Vietnamese formed massive gangs, and Cabramatta was a hotspot for drug crime. Now, however, they have calmed down, and in fact helped society to a large extent.

Do you reckon the (problematic) Lebanese of now will similarily calm down and become useful members of society?

No because Asian organised crime etc is still very prevalent in those areas?

Its all got to do with immigrants not assimilating properly and thus forming gangs. Obviously i have no idea why bikie gangs form but yeah

While it's still prevalent, its certainly toned down HEAPS. There aren't, say, junkies passed out in the train station toilet. The Vietnamese have also 'assimilated' quite well- they top the HSC ranks, they work in our hospitals as doctors, Cabramatta shops generate lots of money, etc.

This is not so much the lebanese. But would you say it will happen for the lebanese in the future?

It has happened for the Greeks, Italians, Irish, blah immigrantswho have all gone through a teething period but later went on to become productive groups of society.

I guess in the future yes they will integrate more than they are. But it seems different with Lebanese etc, due to the fact that a lot are fundamentally religious, whereas i dont think the asians were (correct me if im wrong).

Oh they are so not religious. The ones your talking about it do it as an identity thing they care about alla as much as most kids their age care about Jesus, that is they aren't sure whether they believe in it or not.

These so called muslim youths will drink, lust, eat pork and skip prayers but then walk the streets proclaiming they are proud Muslims. I've seen many grow up some kindergarten and noticed the so called development as opposed to you who've probably read an Andrew Bolt article.

Well a possible reason as to why cabra in the 1980s had a shitload of gangs was due to the racism the immigrants received when they first came here.

You're wrong, because the gangs were formed by youths and neither ethnic youths were particularly religious.

Its probably got something to do with culture. European migrants integrated and are now considered 'aussie'. The Vietnamese are virtually indistinguishable from the Chinese in Australia, possibly because of their similar culture. The Lebanese? I can't say anything.

That's what you think. The crazy Asian ladies with drawn-on purple eyebrows who don't let you stay in the store for more than two minutes run the entire drug black market beneath our noses...

There's a big difference between organised crime and street gangs tbh. Street gangs are born of lack of opportunities, being poor and having a bad education and high unemployment. This is irrelevant of race. Then their is organised crime such as drug trafficking and credit card fraud etc, from the former soviet countries, south america and vietnam etc., this is usually caused by political instability leading to intelligent and often wealthy people, and potentially dangerous people such as ex soldiers, having their somewhat comfortable life removed, and having to choose between becoming a poor immigrant, a criminal or in some cases being persecuted by new governments.

Drug cartels are productive members of society, they provide goods that consumers demand despite the efforts of armed criminals who try to kidnap and rob them.

They should be applauded for their courage.
