Can anyone please explain to me why Australian national university has such a low cut off.

ANU has been ranked 1st out of all Unis in australia.

rankings is mainly for research/postgrad stuff.
cut off is low coz they're not as many people in canberra, then say sydney. supply/demand etc.

Yes, basically what everyone else said...going there means most people will need to move away to Canberra. Granted, the ATARs are really not all that low.There are unis in Sydney and other populous cities that have much lower cut offs. So I think it's fair to assume that if the location was different the ATARs would skyrocket.
