Hi im currently studying 1st yr medical science @ UWS.

I ruined my 1st semester as I got 2pass 1credit and 1 FAIL (GPA 3.25)

but I got 2 distinction and 2 credit in 2nd semester so I full up my GPA upto 4.375

now I wonder if I can transfer into USYD or ANU, UNSW medical science course,

someone says I need at least credit and someone says even GPA 4.2 might be enough to get an offer as im doing same course (if there arnt many applicants take the offers)

I know transfer is very competitive so no one can guantee offer, but I just wanna know how like I would get offer.

following is my reference list in UAC

1. medical science @USYD [atar 92]
2. medical science @UNSW [atar 94]
3. medical science @ANU [atar 90]
4. medical science @UTS [atar 90]
5. science @USYD [atar 86]
6. science @ANU [atar 82]
7. science @UNSW [atar 78]
8. science @UTS [atar 76]
9. medicine/surgery @ UNSW [atar 99.95] <- its just as a joke

I am applying to ANU with a ATAR of 90 and GPA of 4 (WAM of 61) - you should ask UAC how they calculate your new enter score (do they use GPA or WAM.)

Hi, mate, btw I really hope they use WAM instead of GPA because I hav missed distinction credit by 1point (64 and 74 <- HAHAHA) so my WAM is 64.875 which is close to credit average while my GPA is only 4.375 which is middle of pass)

(edited- they said they use GPA only :(

Well thats shit - I'm applying for special consideration and you probably should do too (given that you have applied to UAC.)

I'm on a credit average on my WAM and pass average on GPA which sucks soo much!

http://www.qtac.edu.au/InfoSheets/UpgradingViaTertiary.html says that a 4.0 GPA is worth an ATAR of 90

There was a link on BoS but with all the forum shit its gone.

wow, r u sure that GPA 4.0 equals atar 90???

cuz if so, my GPA will b about 92 at least and its enough to get in USYD!!

WOW im so happy with that thx!!!

p.s.- btw can u explain more abt special consideration? can dat improve my mark? how can i apply?

Says that on QTAC anyway - I'm sure that a 4.0 would be worth at least 80 though

but isn't transfer very dependable on course we r moving from and to?
for example its easy to transfer from science to science but,
its very hard to move from science to law or economics.

so is the converting of GPA to ATAR in case u r moving to same course?
or no matter which course u r moving into?

well im just worrying cuz everyone says all different things
sum1 says it needs at least credit average to transfer,
sum1 says pass average is enough
sum1 says it is very dependable with wat course applicant moving from and to
sum1 says it doesnt matter wat course u r moving into

anyone can like ..guarantee?

(edited- btw when i called UAC they said each universities have their own criteria, so i reckon using either of WAM or GPA & dependant of course are upto the uni)

I asked ANU and they said it depends on UAC though I think the chick wasn't that well informed.
Filled in my special consideration form today.

If you think of some good reasons go for it.

Mine is for a number of reasons
- Said that ANU has world reputeted
- Got a signed letter from director of mathematical sciences at UWA saying that UWA has had units removed which could majorly impact the ability for some students to finish their degree
- Talked about how UWA 3rd year maths units are 1/2 Masters students and there is low social activity in the Maths department
- My Uncle's funeral was the day of one examination and I got the worst score I have ever gotten in Uni - I didn't ask for an extension because some friends applied and ended up getting 0 for their assessment.
- My autistic brother got suspended from school which lead to mum having a breakdown (all in the 2nd week of exams) just before my MATH2300 exam which I failed. Again I didn't ask.
- I have been mentored by a professor of comp science over the summer and have been doing some work with him.

Hopefully thats enough to get me in.
