This guy at my school a few years ago did great. He did fairly low and overlooked subjects like General Maths, Standard english, etcetcetc.. anyway, he ended up with an ATAR of 96 and an all-rounders award.

Plenty of people have gotten 95+ with Standard. Last year around 4 people got 97+... but then again they were the 4unit maths people lol

Yeh I got ATAR of 94.30 in 2009 with Standard English, General Maths and PDHPE (quite possibly the worst combination of subjects, I know).

Here are my marks:

English 86
GenMaths 96
Legal 90
Business Studies 91
PDHPE 88

How about your half-yearly?

I'm anxious to know 'cos I need some motivation in this subject.
not good. I got in the 70s. English is my weakest subject, hence standard :p
However, rank wise I'm either 1st or 2nd so I guess that explains why my estimate was 99.
as for motivation, try your best. As long as you do well in your other subjects and put a solid effort into English, it shouldn't affect your ATAR much. A High Band 4 or Band 5 should be good enough to get you into the 90s range.

You're far better off to ace standard, than fail at advanced.
I'm doing advanced, because my school doesn't do standard, and I'm coming around 120ish out of 145, and it's screwing my ATAR estimates up.

^don't do it.

if you have a shit teacher and a poor classroom environment, you will lose motivation! and plus standard english aligns terribly - you shouldn't do it anyway.
