Hey guys,

I have about $7500 saved up for a car at the moment and I'm also looking for a car in that price range. I want to be able tow a boat (or trailer) as well, so I'm looking for a V6 or above here and also preferably a RWD V6/V8 (For towing heavy stuff).
I'm only licensed to drive an auto, so I can't touch a manual.
I'm not so much in for the looks or speed. I need safety options (Dual airbags is a must & also ABS) and also reliability.
I need something that's reliable like the Corolla I currently drive and not something that I'll have to end up fixing all the time.
But a V6 FWD would also be OK with me as long as it can tow a boat or trailer.
Petrol consumption won't be an issue as I'll get the LPG conversion on the car.
So far I've been looking at the following types of cars at used car dealers and stuff alike.

* Lexus LS400 (<1995) [4.0L V8]
* Holden Commodore VT Berlina or Calais [3.8L V6]
* Ford Falcon AU Fairmont or XR6 [4.0L 6 cylinder]
* Lexus ES300 (<1997) [3.0L V6 FWD]

So which one would be a good choice to buy?

Thanks.

You could probably find a BA Falcon XT at pickles or something within your price range if you're interested.

Wow, I should've read OP more closely - You can't drive V8s or turbos until you have your full license.

Hmm.... I thought it was only a restriction against turbocharged and supercharged cars and that was about it. I guess I'm wrong otherwise.
If that's the case then I can only get a V6 instead of a V8.

How big is the boat going to be? Can't be much if you're considering fwd. If it's huge, you really need awd V8.

My mate has a twenty five year old, 4 cylinder, (non-turbo) diesel hilux, about 400'000k's on the clock, never had a problem, tows some substantial boats.

Jap utes are the best for boats, if a 4-cylinder is enough. Man up and learn to drive manual, it's not hard, whatever car you get, a manual is much better for towing. The high alloy tray avoids the rust problems you'll get with any conventional vehicle. Launching is easy as. Tough and reliable.

Don't know about the other cars, but a lexus ls400 for $7500 would be a fucked proposition.

Get a hilux, a mazda B-series or mabye a nissan.

what size boat? id say a good option would be a vt commodore or falcon. Have you thought about a cheap 4wd. It pribably won't have the safety features as say a commodore but it will be extremely good at towing a boat and useful on slippery ramps.

It'd have to be a pretty decent size boat for a commodore or falcon not to be able to do it, in which case I'd go for a diesel.

I used to have a vt commodore, i bought it for $4500, perfect condition, comfortable drive, all the features you want and plenty of power. I towed all the time with it too and it was awesome.

My nanna also had a falcon au which i drove a lot for a while, same deal but i prefered my commodore tbh, but still a nice car.

my friends dad had a xr6 and i was sorely tempted to buy one, i just didnt because of petrol but if that isnt a problem for you, go for it.

all those 3 are good choices for what you want.
