F = (mv^ 2 ) / r

we had to do an experiment...where we tied a mass(cork) to a string and whirled the string in a circular motion. We found the period, radius and mass(cork).
the velocity is ( 2 * pi * r ) / Period

if we had to graph the relationship between
i ) v and r
ii ) v^2 and r
iii) Tension and Acceleration

what sort of graphs do we get and what is their relationship? I think if you graph iii, you get the mass of the cork
also, is tension just the centripetal force? and how do we find acceleration?

Tension is equal to the centripetal force. It is the tension that provides the centripetal force.

i) v=2πr/T
Since Im assuming the period will remain constant throughout.

You will have a graph of y=mx (since when there is no radius there is no velocity). Where m is 2π/T, x is radius and y is v.

ii) Suprise suprise you will have a graph of y=kx<sup>2</sup>, where k is 4&pi;<sup>2</sup>/T<sup>2</sup>, x is radius, y is v<sup>2</sup>

iii) Ill give you a guess at which formula contains the force and acceleration.
The mass will be the gradient of the line y=mx, where y is tension and x is acceleration ;^)

i think the graph for Tension and Acceleration is simply a linear fuction:y=kx
known from newton second law f=ma
