No Ovid yet - after the pop quiz is over. Along with my whole bookshelf again (I need my dose of Pratchett *twitch*) and all these freaking Victorian novels I was intending to read for Ext 1.
I love learning English, but I hate regurgitating it D:

I'll do your Electra if you do my Thucy.

Baha. Oh the references :D
I still love the "she-wolf/prostitute fondled the babes with her tongue" or whatever it was :p

We think we should have an exam about frees. Time-management and procrastination skills :p

First of all, greetings Nicholas! So we meet again!

I can see this thread turning once again a representation of our "shoe-box" of weirdness/classic fanaticism!
Well, I'm sorry, I do sincerely apologise indeed, but we'll just have to impose our...Greeky Geekyness on whoever else in our somewhat puny cohort who happens to stumble in here.

The Greatest Procrastinators we shall be!

We can always attempt to wish pop-quiz away! We need more excursions before we can do it properly...who has a time machine?

Speaking of books that are waiting to be read, funnily enough my Aeneid has accumulated dust...I'm dead serious!

So does that mean I get to do nothing!? XD

The Time Management Fairy needs to pay me a visit...and the God/Goddess of Studying Properly needs to come and smite me.

My mind is for once clean! I can't think of any references...alas!

There's not enough Sappho to really study apparently, well according to wikipedia that is. Wiki says that although most of her work was well revered throughout antiquity, only a very small portion of her nine volumes remain. This small portion is basically rubbish papyrii and I think a substancial amount can be found on some bit of pottery somewhere?

So basically our main taste of the works of this fascinating poet is found through other authors from around antiquity, such as our friend Catullus. However, I think there have actually been discoveries of larger portions that are in Greek and English somewhere, therefore we can study Sappho. XD

That lovely little rant was inspired by my most favourite procrastination device. If only I learnt how to type in subjects that were relevant to the coming trials. Please, anyone, feel free to rant about Thucydides or something. Anything useful that will help me pass Greek is most appreciated. XD

For some reason sleeping on the floor or talking about things irrelevant to everything seems more interesting than studying for trials in Frees that are under a week away from today. Terrible!

Thucydides is slowly eating my brain and my patience for it is waring thin.

I agree, anything but Thucydides...I can't really think of any other Greek author I'd really like to do at the moment, except maybe Herodotus, but I do have a strong desire to do some Ovid for perfectly innocent reasons of course.

This long rant is reflective of my need to be able to write in coherent sentences by the start of next week and also the long-winded never ending style of Thucydides.

I need to stop "english-ing" in translation.
There's a bit of Sappho you can study. There's at least one complete poem - it's about Aphrodite - and some big fragments of others. Catullus 51 is a translation of something by Sappho, although I think it's a fairly liberal version. She's not bad, from what I've read, but I have to say, I prefer Catullus.
It surprises me that you're desperate to do Ovid, no matter how bored you are. I like the Metamorphoses, but for some reason the rest of his stuff really annoys me.
You should try Plautus or Menander. I haven't read Menander in Greek, but Plautus' Latin takes some getting used to. Anyway, they're pretty funny.
And if you can't think of any 'references', try this one - 'Odysseus aroused his sleeping comrades with sweet words, standing close to each man'.

We did a lot of Catullus last year. It was good.
The English translation of Sappho that I read was quite a bit different from what I remember from our translatiion of the Catullus, but it could have been a loose English translation or faulty memory acting there.

You don't think there's enough of the Metamorphoses to study properly then? :p
We were translating the opening of it at Latin Summer School (I think. Some Ovid about the beginning of things. It was awesome).
And Ovid would be fantastic for those references. According to The Justice Game, my Module C text, that is.

Baha. Awesome.
Today, translating the return of the conquered Antony and Cleopatra to Egypt...
I don't remember it exactly, but it involved the Nile opening its clothes to 'call them inside'. Our class ruined our teacher's pretty mental image.

My dearest Ki, I actually went to fetch Virgil for that very reason...to quote those wonderful lines we did today...poor Mrs B, we really did ruin her lovely mental images didn't we...our cacking must have really put her off more! :p

So all I can say now with my fantabulous and 'apparent' one track mind happens to be partially back into full steam...despite feeling semi-conscious...

"...opening the folds of his cloak and welcoming with all his robes vanquished into his green-blue lap and into his secretive streams."

'Nuff said! Be as sordid as you want!

I do enjoy Catullus I must admit. I would have been interesting if our Latin teacher actually found her copy of his non-G rated stuff.

The Ovid we did at Latin Summer School was brilliant, I agree. Let's say I've been well inspired to get a hold of some Ovid sometime...I wouldn't say I'm desperate to read some yet though. Anything that allows any sort of analysis of the human psyche will make me incredibly amused and happy!

I do like the quote: "Sic ego nec sine te nec tecum vivere possum"
It's quite amusing when you think about it!

I'll honestly go back to all our dearest Roman and Greek guys (I once read some Tacitus) once the HSC is over, I get over the horridness associated with Classics Exams and I finish Anna Karenina and my massive Bronte anthology...maybe I'll actually get round to reading the Aeneid. *halo*

Greek is 11 days away...

Tomorrow shall be dubbed "Mass Learn Translation Day". Joy! XD

I shall shut my gob now!

Of course our latin class runined it...we are a bunch of teenage girls with the exception of 3 people...one of them steph...

BTW another reference form Homer...not that you actually need to look too hard "You shall render me base and unmanly once i have been stripped of my clothing"

"And then i went up to the beautiful bed of Circe.....meanwhill" mmmm...i wonder....

well that was all my contribution...

BTW Hi Nicholas....

i am the source of knowledge for all references, thanks to steph...love you....

Well i was forced...litteraly to read Tacitus (tanslation) for ancient.....not much enjoyment...
I know what you mean steph...once we end the HSC we will deffinetly have to get back into the classics side of things...we will hopefully still enjoy it....but i think i shall hate Euripides forever...along with any connations to Agamemnon and his death...on legend ruined for me..Alas

Well...i should be working considering it is a study day..but i can only get online in the morning cause i used up all the internet download stuff downloading like 4 movies...oops...oh well..it was worth it just to have History Boys...

I shall go learn some Bio/Maths/everything else that i have been avoiding...still including Electra (it just seems to put me to sleep...litterally)

Zara, why is it that I enjoy using certain quotes from History Boys on you? However, you do admit that you love me (yeah right!) so I guess I love you too!? :p:p:p

AND, I'm just that brilliant, what can I say!? XD

My References for the day: Oxford Latin Course= Wooden Plank Spankings in the Army and Athenazde: Nekkid Wrestling (not really specific quotes, but things that did turn up)

No wonder I stumbled across my Tacitus at one of those Garden Party sales! I remember liking it, but I haven't picked it up in ages based on the time and because it takes a lot of patience to read.

I'm increasingly disliking Euripides purely because I have to write about his texts in both Greek and Ext English. Lucky me! I get to talk about Medea and Electra for Ext!

What movies have you downloaded!? XD

I managed to get some studying done after you left but then I got extremely hungry so Nat and I went to get Subway, but then after Subway I felt full and sick so then my productivity went down the drain and I started reading Nat's WWI textbook. I did manage to get some Olivia and Fergustine done though. XD Once again I'll be locking myself in a library though...why are trials such a drag!? Oh well holiday afterwards I say...maybe!

I should probably do some Greek or Journeys Notes...both which I feel too dead to do because I was falling asleep on the bus. >.<

I can see us all diverging a lot on this thread! Good thing we have a puny cohort, isn't it!? Would like to know where the rest of them are though. XD

Well done Steph.
Today was brick-revision day. (Oh the joys of Individual and Society).

I don't think we can get past Xerxes whipping the river and tearing his robes though :3

The whole clothes ripping in "passion" sounds rather hilarious...do you think we could drive anyone mad enough to do that!?

I love it how we have seemed to diverge off the topic of greek!

I do believe everyone is officially scared off! XDDDDDDDDD

COME BACK WE WON'T HURT YOU...promise!

We're not weird, of course not!

How o how o how can me (zara) influence you when u r the one who is constantly teaching me these references i am just voicing them...cause i don't have any well manners...

Plus i was reading bio the yesterday at like 11 after our phone call....one of our practicals was titled

"Mating Practical"---mmm i wonder.....

Well...don't blame me i was soo innocent in like yr 7...when i met you and i was even innocent in yr 10...but then i don't know...does pubity affect your brain...well that would be it then....or YOU STEPH (teenage boy)

Back to greek...still haven't learned Electra...but i did manage to do some bio...now today and tomorrow will have to do enlish...btw if you did inner joruneys...could you please tell me what related u r doing cause i only have one "the Alchemist" and thats it....i

would really like a poem...cause the stylistic feature learnt in latin/greek most helpful and would be easy...well if you could like tell me in the next couple of days...cause english trial is like on monday..:burn:

I know i am just sooo unprepared

well....if there was two units of procrastination and an ext course of complaining...i would win hands down...hands down

Study well!!!!

So Zara, who are you going to do this mating practical with? How did you do this mating practical in class anyway? I'm very interested to know!

Zara, you know you equally think up all these bad thoughts...why do I always get blamed? XD

I repeat, not my fault! :p:p:p

I went to the Mac Uni library to study today and I finally started Greek! I also did some more Virgil, maths and attempted to make up some thesises for journeys and topic sentences for inner journeys. My other related is What's Eating Gilbert Grape...I have no idea what I'm saying for the Alchemist yet coz I haven't really thought about it. I'm so dead now too and I gotta do chem all night when I get back from having dinner with rellies.

Plus I'm very upset because my new favourite story hasn't been updated in 2 years. T_T

Yeah, back to Greek, I'm not really finding it all that hard to go through...my problem is losing concentration, but hey I'm getting there. I need to start both Exts ASAP though.

I need to have one big lesson on stylistic and literary features very soon...man I hate commentary.

Zara, we're officially alone in this thread. XDDDD:wave:

AND YES READING IS PROBABLY NOT ADVISED. :burn:

hey,

Well...you taught me to look for bad things therefore it is your fault...you began it...and my mind sort of took it away....

The mating Practical was actually on co-dominance and incomplete dominance it was basically a bunch of punnet sqarues to show thoes to features....not that interesting but amused by the title...

btw i haven't started Ext Latin...so i should do that...but i have problems with doing more than one subject in a day...cause i like to concentrate on one thing then complete it and move on...but i really do have to learn to do more than one in a day...otherwise i am going to fail electra and lucretius cause i did cicero already...yeah....

For english i basically just used burning sappho as my related..considering i had already done it...but it was a group thing in class so it is kind of cheating but not cause our teacher had no imput....
Cause yesterday i basically wrote an essay plan..kind of turned into and essay for journeys and wuthering heights and i wrote an intro for telling the truth...feel pretty good except that journey's like took me hours litteraly like 4...had to sort through all this work....
Hopefull it will pay off

Do we need more than one related for Telling the Truth...cause i only have one??? Oh well..i will just do like farenheit 911 or inconvient truth or something...cause i can watch them....

BTW as soon as i came on everyone left..i must really scare people away...ups....well one day someone won't be scared...or i will be left lonerated for the rest of my life...

I hope we all get some study done today..

much love and luck

Don't worry. You didn't scare me off, the trials did.

And yes, you are weird. Your playing cards are proof of that.

Baha. We probably scared off Shore-boy though.

We're weird and wonderful :3
(Oh, and I dissociate myself from the playing cards. Although I could have bought similar very interesting Incan ones with matching keyrings. The proportions were even worse.)

First of all, Ki you traitor! :p
And AND bringy in those Incan Cards after trials during a Greek/Latin lesson so we can scare someone out of giving our Electra and or Thucy back. :p:p

Bahaha yeah I don't think Shore guy's coming back...XDDD

And Nicholas, what do the playing of cards have to do with it!? XD
Playing with cards is a perfectly normal thing to do I mean sheesh! :p

AND have you done your Greeky/Latiny trials yet!?
AND out of interest what subjects do the other two who do Greek and Latin do?

And Zara, OOO I love punnet sqares...I would have done Bio for the punnet squares (and not stoopid chem which I'm studying for now). You'll be happy to know that my brother's doing both Ancient and Bio I think?

AND still not my problem, you got the dirty all by yourself.

AND you need two related texts but I only have one so far (genius that I am), but they did only ask for one in journeys so I'm crossing my fingers that it'll be the same for telling the truth.

EXT Lat and Greek will be dealt by me later, don't you worry.

AND I should stop using a conjunction at the beginning of my sentences! It's so translation English...Gods help me!

Well I neither bought them nor own them, so I have nothing to do with them =P
I didn't actually buy the Incan cards, is what I meant. Though with enough effort I could probably track some down. Or at least track down the matching keyring. Scary things they were D:

Steph >.> I think you do need two. I haven't seen a question which hasn't needed two yet >.<

Just need to start adding 'men's and 'de's everywhere. That'd make em take notice in the English staffroom.
"Ooh, perhaps these are some amazing new terms!" or, "Ooh, I can't read her writing. It's all Ancient Greek to me!" (a favourite quote of my dad's when he sees me with Thucy or Electra).

Playing with cards is normal. Cards with ancient Greek pornography on them are not.

Latin Cont. and Greek Ext. are next week. Greek Cont. is on Thursday. Latin Ext. is in 45 minutes.

Nicholas: *shrugs* Seriously, who needs normal anyway? The less normal things us the better they are to me...then again the cards could be considered pretty normal to us because of the chance to laugh at how illogical they are.

The topic of the playing cards has the potential to spark quite an interesting debate, somewhat.

And yuck, good luck! You must tell us how they all go.

Ki: Track them down. There really is a need for the two sets of cards to be compared. (How Latin was that construction? "There is a need for Lucretia to be raped.")

XD. And yes, anything to majorly piss off or amaze the english department is fine to me! Well seeing that two of my Ext texts are Greek, chucking in some Greeky stuff may be considered normal.

Right, do you know anyone with notes on The Crucible...well more quotes I don't really need notes.

I'm falling asleep...should be doing maths, but 3 hours of chem exam combined with 5.5 hours sleep is not a good combo...plus I'm starving.

I be happy when maths is over though. Then have plenty of time to concentrate on Modules (eww) and Classics...need to get a riggle on with classics I swear.
