when you type an address, it keeps the addresses saved so you don't have to type them in later.

i once wanted to know how to clear them and the advice was good- go into options and delete all cookies, internet options and history. that worked.

now when i do that and start typing in www.bore.... etc. to get to this site there are 2 address things that have not been cleared - the one for L&R sub forum and the one for the HSC scavenger hunt thread. why? how can i clear these?

If you access your own local directories using firefox, does it get saved in the drop down box thingy?
With IE it gets saved even though you're running it from 'My Computer'.

you will have to clear your history every time you use your browser if you dont want the drop downs to come down. they (the drop downs) are built in to IE - and i dont *think* there is any way you can disable them. I think this would be the same for IE as well as firefox...
The appear because they are sites you ahve recently visited because they are contained in your history list - so clearing this.. or turning off the history feature may fix your problem.

Run -> Regedit -> Ctrl+F

Whatever search term you want. "Boredofst" or part of the URL.

Should bring up a list of values like Url1 REG_SZ http://www.google.com/

Double click, edit to what you want :)

If you delete url5, for example, all typed urls under that will dissapear. Best to edit them all to google or something.

The expanded folder on the right will be "TypedURLs", also.

If you don't know what it is, then yes. If you're talking about the urls, you can delete everything but the first one, and edit that to google or something.

There shouldnt be folders left behind - unless you have asked specifically to leave certain configuration files behind.

lol

1. i have uninstalled programs, e.g. spybot (not one of them but an example) and there are folders left behind in the registry. should i delete them?

2. i am typing boredofstudies into the ctrl+f thing that comes up, as mednez said

3.i am looking for urls by scrolling through the folders. mednez said something about urls, i can't see the anywhere

4 and 5. i have deleted folders off my computer in general, such as ones that i kept my school work in last year. there are listis of things that go "my computer/my documents/my school work" - i have deleted the school work folder from the computer but it is still in the directory

as for this thread, i use IE. when i clear everything there are still only 2 addresses that come up on the drop down menu, the ones i mentioned before from bos. i do not know why they will not delete.

You can if you want - I don't think it would do it any harm but its not neccessary.

If its finding anything (what Ctrl+F does).. it should come up with an entry highlighted in blue - mine, is url15 and if i was to delete that entry it would no longer cache entries with the http://www.boredofstudies.org/community/ prefix.

Do you mean the registry?? If so, where in the registry is it located?

In Internet Explorer:

Tools>Internet Options>Content>Auto Complete>"Clear Forms" and "Clear Passwords"

Should do the trick.

EDIT: In theory, anyway. Whether or not it actually works is a different story.

Yes, the drop down things are Auto Complete features, not history or anything else

Stop looking at porn, then you wont need to clear it.

Anyway, the easiest way is to just clear the history. Otherwise, get a program that does it, like "windows washer"

I'm now using firefox which clears everything but I know what you mean because I used to use IE before.
When you clear the history in "Tools", it doesn't actually remove it.
To properly remove your history, go into this folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\Batman\Local Settings\History
Where "Batman" is your username.
Then delete everything in that folder.

Bye bye history for now. You must do this everytime you want to delete history. Note that "Local Settings" is a hidden folder, so if you can't see, this is what you do:
In windows explorer, click Tools > Folder Options
Go to view and find the option that says "Show hidden files and folders", then tick it.
