Pretty sure it isn't a clone. During meiosis, the chromatids of the cell cross over and there are many variations like cell differentiation, mutation etc, it wont be a clone. Also when it interacts with a sperm there are 23 chromosomes from the sperm and 23 from the ovum so I'm pretty sure they're not cloned.
It's two eggs, there was no sperm.

Two eggs from the same female

Can someone post the question.
something something technology has been used to create variable embryos from two eggs of the same female.

explain whether the offspring would be a clone of the female. In your answer, use your knowledge of genetics and sexual reproduction. (5 marks)

^ something like that adrita :)

If it was recombinant technology, and the eggs were not fertilised, it would be cloning.

Two eggs from the same female were taken and fused together.

Offspring clone or not?

Can't remember exact question but essentially it is that.

No, because if the ova had already been formed; they've undergone meiosis.

This means, therefore, that there was a possibility in prophase 1 that crossing over occurred. In interphase the dna had to be replicated, as well, which means there is a chance of mutation. Couple this with random segregation and the fertilisation of the egg (if it was) then it cannot be a clone.

from memory it didn't specify recombinant technology. something about taking 2 eggs from the same female to fuse to create a viable embryo?

Said it wasn't a clone because each gamete has a different genetic make up due to random segregation and crossing over. so that's probably 2/5 for me, hopefully

I also said it wasn't a clone. Can't remember what I said but probably some bullshit about alleles and random segregation and stuff. =/

essentially it is NOT a clone because to actually make a clone you need to take the nucleus/genetic material from a somatic cell not a gamete as was done in this question. so no clone

even tho i said it was a clone im thinking it wasnt. all of gamete formation pretty much leads to variation. in that case it was 5 marks, would i immediately get 0 because my topic sentence was 'it is a clone' yet throughout my paragraph i explained the variation of meiosis[far im stupid] any1 kno the marking guidelines>?
